I mourn the passing of Lou Holtz, whom I knew well. I must just share one story. One day I was rushing through O’Hare airport when a woman stopped me and demanded my autograph. I was surprised, but I pulled out my pen and signed my name. She said, “Gordon Gee, who in hell sake are  you? I thought you were Lou Holtz.”

Sacred cows make the best hamburgers. I've been saying that for years, and Rachel Toor still won't let me get away with it. In our latest column, we discussed majors, departments, and why universities need to stop organizing themselves around how faculty were trained and start organizing around how students actually learn. insidehighered.com/opinion/column…

One of the things I miss most about being a university president is regular contact with students.  I had a wonderful dinner with three sophomores from the University of Austin this week, and it was so enlightening.  Great young people at @uaustinorg

I visited with the student trustees from the 13 public universities in Ohio. I want to be on the record as saying that I believe student trustees add enormous value to any Board Of Governors. That has always been my experience.

E. Gordon Gee describes himself as a leader at five great universities, a proud father and grandfather and a bow tie enthusiast. For those who have been around Columbus long enough to remember, E. Gordon Gee has a prominent legacy. wosu.pm/4bWF9Jq

Rachel Toor and I are back with round two. This time, we get into boards, faculty no-confidence votes, and why the structure that requires majors may be antiquated. She calls me an egg, I call her my boss... All in good fun. insidehighered.com/opinion/column…

I have long admired Rachel Toor, not only because she is a brilliant writer and thinker, but also because she uses humor for truth telling. After retiring, I reached out to Rachel, and we had one of the most interesting, lively conversations that I have had in some time. Although we often look at the world through different ends of the telescope, we both believe in the cause of higher education, and we also believe that institutions must change or die. We decided to cast our lot together to write a series of columns that have humor (a lost art in higher education) while poking at the arrogance and resistance to change found among so many institutions. As a sector, we have often failed to engage in honest self-examination. We believe that higher education in this country is critical for the future of our nation and our democracy. Administrators and faculty must accept that responsibility by becoming architects of change, or surely its victims. insidehighered.com/opinion/column…
