@MichaelRosenYes And that is why my youngest is being homeschooled! My older child is going through the equivalent of A Levels here in Australia (the HSC), and her stress levels are through the roof. We keep reassuring her that there are other ways to get into Uni.

Have you noticed that every year the papers fret over the top GCSE and A-level results. This enables them to not notice that one purpose of the system every year is to fail a given percentage of students who've done 5 or 7 years schooling. What?! What is the point of that?

Hats off to the person responsible. Annoyed English teachers can be pretty fearsome.
