@mathspeptalk@WonderingMaths@cheshirewirral@tythymaths Just thinking, maybe (x+3) should be a full bar by itself, then there are two bars below it, one of them has a 4 in it. So we add a 4 to the other bar, and we can see that x+3=8 . Sorry, late.

It's the subtraction that makes any representation difficult, but they've done negatives with counters so balancing scales may work better. Our resources use bar models so trying to make them work... I'll try with my class and feedback to the team! Thank you Jacob! 😊
