@DrSujithRam @CMSGov Great initiative, Sujith! There is probably also a need to nudge the CMS on the issue of review process and timeline, which is at times excruciating and seemingly unending.

For full 10 seconds, I thought this was a satirical tweet, but it’s brilliant!

Ability to stand on one leg for > 10 seconds is associated with longer survival We rely on multiple investigations such as blood tests and scans to detect diseases and predict about risk of diseases or death. However, clinical examination can often give valuable clues about a person’s health. The ability to stand on one’s leg is one such test that can be easily performed at home or in a doctor’s office. How is the one leg standing (OLS) test done? The person stands on one leg, with eyes open and looks straight ahead. The other leg (not supporting the person’s weight) is kept behind the leg on which the person is standing. The hands are kept by the sides. If a person can stand on one leg for >10 seconds, he/she is considered to have passed the test. Those who can’t stand on one leg for 10 seconds are considered to have failed the test. 3 attempts were allowed, and one could use either left or right leg to stand on. Findings of the study 1. 1702 individuals aged 51-75 years (mean age 61 years, 68% men) underwent one leg standing (OLS) test and they were followed up for about 7 years. 2. 20% failed the OLS test. 3. The death rate was about two-times higher among people who failed the OLS test, as compared to those who passed the OLS test. What are the reasons for failing the OLS test? Failing to stand on one leg does not indicate any specific disease. Causes can be related to orthopedic (knee arthritis), neurological (weakness or numbness of feet), poor balance, impaired cognition, obesity, heart diseases, etc. The proportion of people with diabetes, high BP, obesity, and heart diseases were also higher among people who failed the OLS test, as compared to those who passed it. How long can people stand on one leg? The ability to stand on one leg varies among people and and generally declines with age. People in their 50s can stand for 40 seconds, people in 60s can stand for 20 seconds and people in 70s can stand for 10 seconds. Take home message 1. Inability to stand on one leg for >10 seconds is associated with a higher risk of death. 2. OLS test is simple to perform, and it should be included as part of routine clinical examination in middle aged and older adults. Limitation: This study showed only an association and does not prove cause and effect. As someone who lost a dear brother, just days ago, to a road accident involving a cow sitting in the middle of the road, I applaud this step. Nevertheless, it’s a drop in the ocean, and unless a combination of large scale fencing and real regulations to prevent farmers from…

We are planning to implement the Bahu Balli Cattle Fence along highways in India to prevent cattle from crossing the road and causing dangerous accidents that result in the loss of human life. The fence will be 1.20 meters high and will be installed on section 23 of NH-30 as a comprehensive solution. This installation will serve as a demonstration before the esteemed visit of Shri @narendramodi Ji, the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, to Chhattisgarh. The cattle fence, constructed using bamboo, offers a fully effective and environmentally friendly solution. The bamboo is treated with creosote oil and coated with HDPE, making it a stronger alternative to steel. The fence has a fire rating of Class 1, ensuring safety, and aligns with the principles of #AatmanirbharBharat, which aims to make all highways sustainable and minimize harm to wildlife and cattle. #PragatiKaHighway #GatiShakti

@theliverdoc All pregnant women who may have seen this post: Do not pay heed to this—while it is true that a healthy, varied diet will help get most of the vitamins, some supplements may be critical for fetal growth per individual situation—if your doc has prescribed those, please take them!

@girdley Very compelling arguments! On the matter of Health, however, seem to ignore the benefits that come with cooking itself: not only satisfaction and enjoyment, but also self-efficacy, all of which are beneficial for emotional, mental, & physical health—based on a gamut of research!

Health: This was the reason we looked into a chef in the first place. And this guy has delivered. Tastier and fresher than what we’d make ourselves. And way healthier than a restaurant. He makes everything taste great – our teens eat vegetables now.
