If Toby Fox doesn’t want to do a translation for whatever reason, ill-conceived and weird as it may be, he has the right to do that because it’s his creation to do with as he pleases. The author of a work does not have some special debt to pay just because his work got popular.

@ExecutiveEgg @PalmyrPar Fan translations aren't official, which is the point. No it's translatable, nobody is saying otherwise, but it would be severely compromised and changed, even a perfect translation loses meaning due to context even outside the game. So why should he have to do it?

@gr1sa1a @PalmyrPar I'm saying his vision is far more compromised by fan translations that dont fully understand his work. I am saying that his reasoning is flawed. It is unreasonable because he is assuming that his work is untranslatable even if he helped a professional team

Again, Toby does not want to compromise his vision, he does not speak any other language other then Japanese or English, he can not properly oversee a translation outside of those. This is a perfectly reasonable explanation and excuse

I'll be frank you haven't said much, your point is that it would be nice if Toby could hire a translation team to translate his games into different languages, because this would make people happy. This is fine. But this is not what people are talking about.

@gr1sa1a @PalmyrPar If toby worked with a team of professional translators it would unquestionably be better. It might not be the easiest thing in the world but that doesnt mean it isnt worth doing, and perfect quality isnt necessary.

@ExecutiveEgg @PalmyrPar The fate official translation made money because there was no money being made in the first place. It is nobodies job, you don't deserve anything from a creator. If I make a popular game, why in the fuck is it my job to then translate it to into a million different languages?

@ExecutiveEgg @PalmyrPar to translate while also simultaneously still working on the rest of the game (That has not even finished yet!) might be more incredibly difficult and time consuming then a couple of fans translating it themselves?

You don't see how having to do hands on translation work in a language you don't understand, trying to match perfect quality in a very difficult work

And why is it the art's creator's imperative to make sure they experience it? Well yeah duh, 1 is higher than 0.

@gr1sa1a @PalmyrPar So you're admitting that they aren't as meaningful as official translations then? Also, toby fox has a brain, he could just put a disclaimer that says something like "This is a translation of the original work, there may be some errors"

@ExecutiveEgg @PalmyrPar No real guarantee there, slightly better odds but no different then hitting on an 18 instead of a 19. They made an official translation because the studio wanted to make more money, that's it really. Why is it a good thing? Why does it matter how many people experience it?

@ExecutiveEgg @PalmyrPar Because they're not official, they have no more meaning then me editing the dialogue to make sans say "globalize the intifada" or whatever.
