I love the opimism with which I pack my bag at the end of the school day as if I'll be able to see the physio, buy groceries, make dinner, spend time with the family, train the juniors at karate, upload the assignment marks, write the references and redesign the exam all by 10pm.

@grahamrees You didn’t catch what they had, did you? You’d be square rooted for a week.

So I went to work on Friday and there were three mathematics teachers away and another one coughing her guts out. I told a friend. “That doesn’t add up,” he said.

Courage and hubris are not the same things. They only appear to be so to the disaffected.

Wishing you were able to solve other people’s problems is admirable. Helping them solve their problems themselves is top tier. Trying to solve them when they’re completely able to do it themselves and they keep asking you to mind your own business is a sign of mental illness.

There are two ways to add 2 and 2 and get it wrong. You can get 3. Or you can get 4 when the noise in the zeitgeist is that 2 plus 2 is 5. That it's always been 5. Like, why would you say it wasn't 5? This is the noise a culture makes when it's given in to the gaslighting.

There was a practise fire drill yesterday and I pitched the alarm at roughly F#₄-G#₄, but one of the moving notes was intentionally making a tritone dissonant interval which made the alarm /really/ irritating to listen to asd;flkjafsdka;ljf

Racist people do not, in my experience, have any problem with being racist. They’re totally fine with it. They have an enormous problem, however, with you saying they’re racist.

I've recently noticed that @woolworths stores in my local area are implementing 'quiet hour' to support customers with sensory needs and I just think that's such a wonderful initiative. Thank you, Woolies 🍏💚 #sensoryoverload #autismawareness

How do you even get seven negative behaviour entries in a four period day? Asking for a friend 🤦‍♂️

Manflu update: You watch Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and tear up at the thought of Sharon Tate not dying and sob uncontrollably when Jake Cahill is validated by a child actor.

The unnerving thing about manflu is not the flu. It's the middle days when you've stopped getting worse but you're not yet better. The inbetweenness of being too exhausted to work but not tired enough to sleep. The twilight zone.

Too much (self-imposed) PhD work really isn't helping by my lack of consistency in knowing how to do things in R such that I'm always running into dumb typing problems. Like c'mon, R, $ vs [[]] vs normal subsetting, and then old base R packages that can't parse tibbles, grrrr...

"Can you put, like, an 𝘹 in the calculator, sir?" has to be one of the sadder questions you field during a Year 9 algebra exam.

There's a guy at another campus that has various mathematically patterned shirts ALL HANDMADE BY HIS MOTHER/PARTNER(?) and if that isn't going to make me master sewing and making my own purely out of (playful) spite and jealousy, nothing will 😤

I thought I was slightly crazy for doing white rice/brown rice/chickpea mix for my meal prep then I saw an Instagram reel of a Korean mother who includes (hydrated) chia seeds and like 4 different types of beans and various other things. I should emulate this.
