I called being like there's got to be an issue or they have a cheaper alternative. Best price they could get me was almost double what McMaster card had as their list price! No idea why, but yeah I have to shop shit out like crazy these days. The other company we used to buy them from were at about $300/6 ft. I better order that shit from McMaster before they realize and jack up their prices 🤣.

On average we get material for about 3x less than what’s listed on our vendors’ websites. A big part of mfg culture is calling your rep to haggle and get a good price. I think it’s so deeply engrained that it’s part of why in the B2B space the ecom model has had such slow adoption for daily purchasing. I guarantee there are guys who have tried calling the instant quote companies to get a better price.

It pays to have friends in manufacturing, I almost bought a $15,000 simulation suite when a friend told me he paid $5,000. A simple email to the sales guy and I got the better price.
