@mkhammer LOL, good analogy. My dentist's office calls me to make the appointment. And since I often don't answer they call multiple times.

Why are modern dental appointments like dating someone who needs constant reassurance? I have to confirm the appointment three times before the date. Like, yes, dental appointment, I am still into you.

Ah shite, knew today would come. The sun rises above my town and the lads have moved on. To the house, they’ve bestowed their colors, to me, their last 3 bottles.

@eddyportnoy @gimmickyyyy Seems particularly important when there is denial of said historical event. As an educator, it's imp to me that filmmakers/tv pole strive for accuracy, especially with anything that might be viewed by living survivors or their descendants. Same w slavery, for example.

@gimmickyyyy @granitelb I get what you're saying and the relationship is an important element, but a historical film needs to create a believable simulacrum, which this does not. Moreover, the film exploits the setting for comedic ends.

Why does every American open the door for you, ask you how your day was and ask if you need help/ recommendations with anything? Serious question

@eddyportnoy Absolutely. I've not seen it in years but that sounds like what bothered me. I struggle w how pple put things out into the world w/o seeming to have a sense of the impact. Colbert denounced a mass shooting directly to the camera; his first guest's promo was 2 men w guns. smdh.

@granitelb I thought the first part of the film was great. But after they’re sent to the camps, I became offended. That portion was like a death camp fairy tale that exploited the brutally grim realities of it for feel good laughs.

buying a new book when you have a stack of twenty unread ones at home isn't a bad habit, it is simply funding your domestic library aesthetic.

My nephew cried for 10 minutes because I wouldn't give him the penguin plush off my backpack, and now my whole family thinks I'm a monster. It wasn't just 'a toy.' This little penguin was a gift from a close friend who lives far away, given right before he left. It's a reminder of him, always on my bag, and it means a lot to me. My 8-year-old nephew saw it and wanted it. I said no, but offered to get him a similar one. He started sobbing, saying 'but this one is already my friend!' Then the adults started giving me strange looks. My mom quietly told me it was 'just a toy on a bag' and my sister later said I made him cry over a 'stupid plush toy' and could have just given it to him. Excuse me? It just makes me so mad that my personal, meaningful gift became 'just a toy' simply because the adults found it uncomfortable to hear a child cry. Why do I have to give up something important to me to avoid family drama? I love my nephew, but that penguin stays with me.

To understand the scale of today’s Russian crime against humanity’s historical heritage: it is the equivalent of bombing St. Peter’s Basilica in a war of conquest against Italy, or Notre-Dame de Paris against France, Westminster Abbey against Britain, or Aachen Cathedral.

First responders have put out the fires in Kyiv – at the Lavra and the Mystetskyi Arsenal. I am grateful to all the services working at the sites of the strikes, and to everyone who is helping. It has been confirmed that two Russian drones deliberately targeted the part of the city where the Lavra and the Mystetskyi Arsenal are located. As of now, 35 people are reported injured in Kyiv. Across the country, 53 people have been wounded, and 11 people are known to have been killed in this massive Russian attack. My condolences to all their families and loved ones. We are in constant communication with our partners regarding the consequences of this Russian attack and the necessary response. It is important that state leaders, public leaders, and international organizations do not remain silent. I have instructed Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our entire diplomatic team to maximize all contacts with partners today so that international events this week and next deliver real results for strengthening our defense and increasing global pressure on Russia over this war. We need a just response to this Russian strike. Thank you to everyone who stands with Ukraine.

When Notre-Dame burned in 2019, the world stopped. Today, Russia damages Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a monastery nearly 1,000 years old and older than Notre-Dame itself. A thousand years of history deserves the same attention, the same sympathy, and the same protection.

@jaynordlinger the best response is posting positive images and comments about Michelle Obama, not reposting the hateful comment—reposting only amplifies that guy's comments. that's how social media works: it amplifies whatever we put here.
