@TheCinesthetic I was there. I saw it five times in the theater when it came out. Almost 30 years later, I still watch that opening scene sometimes.

@Joseph_Fasano_ Yes! Thank you for posting this. I lost the first 49 years of my life. The past seven years I have been starting life and trying to learn, grow, and heal.
There are so many people struggling in secret.

If you're out there suffering from mental illness, in any form and for any reason, please hold on and know you are not alone. As someone who has been on his knees in psych wards, been hauled back from the grip of oblivion, I will always use my voice to help destigmatize this kind of pain. It's not your fault, and you deserve hope, support, and a society that understands. I promise you, the amount of agony you feel is only the vastness of your life, fighting in the darkness to be born.

@delonperc Whoa. This is wild, and strangely comforting, to read. I have very few memories from my first 24 years. The next 25 years are "blurry". I can remember places, but I struggle to remember events and details.

I've been tracking verifiable spec script deals since 1991. I've just gone through and aggregated all 2,558 deals during that time. Anybody interested to see that entire list including loglines, writers, buyers, genres, agents, managers, etc? #screenwriting

@JosephKahn I will watch The Terminal any chance I get. Spielberg is such a good storyteller.

Hard to rank Spielberg movies. I'd put Schindler's List at the top. Thats not a movie. It's his soul in cinematic form. There is so much cinematic genius in every shot and edit, it makes you want to give up as a filmmaker. No one can ever be that good.
I'd follow that with AI (my favorite Weirdberg). It's a film that completely changes each age you rewatch it. If you're young enough, you first watch it from the perspective of the boy. You feel the loss of your parents. Then as you revisit, and you have kids, you shift to the perspective of the mom, and the fear of failing and abandoning your kids. My wife and I absolutely bawled at the final act where David is left to die in a fantasy world with his mom.
From there the films are so brilliant it's hard to place them. The pitch perfect popcorn flicks like Raiders or Temple? The complex morality plays of Munich or Catch? The thrill rides of Jurassic Park, Jaws, War of the Worlds? A "bad" Spielberg movie is untouchable ground for most filmmakers because there are no bad Spielberg movies. They're all embedded at the minimum with complete cinematic expertise literally no one else is capable of replicating.
