@Braylon_Breeze I can’t believe they still let him do play by play. I thought he was terrible in the original ESPN days and he’s worse now. He does more talking with his broadcast team than he does play by play. And he’s always 2-3 seconds late on his calls.

I’m sure many that are old enough (I’m not obviously) are reminded of the old ESPN2 hockey nights when we get Steve Levy on the call, like tonight. Of course, the ironic part is that VGK and Utah weren’t around till about 15 & 20 years later & Oshie wasn’t even in the NHL yet!

@RichNairn9 @chrisolsethpga lol, no chance I would drive on a Tuesday night for a 7pm game. The traffic was horrendous out there. No fun at all. Imagine if Los Arcos went through. Rich, you need to write a book about the Coyotes back office and ownership someday. I would read it.

@chrisolsethpga I worked for the team. Our Central, East & Southeast Valley fans refused to make the drive. You need a centrally located arena to succeed. It would take a decade to build 350,000 homes and no owner is willing to wait that long. We hung in there for almost 20 years & hemorrhaged.

The Coyotes thrived their first 7 seasons in the Valley playing in downtown Phoenix. Hopefully, we will see NHL playoff hockey back in AZ someday. Too bad America West Arena (now Mortgage Matchup Center) has 4,500 obstructed seats for hockey or the Coyotes would still be here.

@zebraonice @AZSportsHistory Very disappointing. The botched move to Los Arcos coupled with the move to Glendale was doomsday for this team. Imagine where they'd be if they ended up in Scottsdale...what could have been.

@AZSportsHistory Crowd was rocking. The valley had hockey fever and loved the Coyotes. Coyote ownership and management really fumbled this team away. It's honestly quite impressive just how poorly they mismanaged the organization.

4/20/97 - The Phoenix #Coyotes finally won their first-ever playoff game, 4-1 over the Mighty Ducks to pull the series to 1-2. 16,210 fans packed America West Arena in the franchise's first Whiteout. PHX scored 3 first period goals, including two from Darrin Shannon.

@AZSportsHistory It's really interesting to watch this because I guarantee there were a lot of WPG fans very upset watching this. Exactly how I felt watching Utah play last night in playoffs.

@mcmcaley It honestly hurts too much. Definitely won't root against them, but not sure I can actively root for them either.

Definitely feeling some type of way about this today. I'm extremely happy for the great people in & around this organization, this was a long time coming. On the other hand, feeling sad for Coyotes fans who suffered through a rebuild for years only to see another market benefit.

@CraigSMorgan Excited for Utah, but I know this would never have happened under the Morono ownership group. Ryan has made great investments into the team and given the staff everything needed to be successful. It will sting when they raise the cup :(

I covered this team for so long, wondering if I’d ever see a model for sustainable success built. It’s a bummer not to be able to chronicle it in-depth, but I love my new life. More important: I’m happy for so many people in this organization. They deserve this. They earned it.
