@graveleater_ You talk about the platform and the people who use it to host their code like they're the same thing.
Do you want to the UX to change or do you want devs to write 10000 line readmes?

If a github project doesn't have an obvious download button on it, then it's probably not meant for you

Let's all get big fat DOWNLOAD buttons and not tell Github

@Jake_The_Silent The appeal of zelda for me was always the story and characters, so this shift to sandbox gameplay with dogshit story and characters sucks imo.

If “zelda fans” had their way we’d be on Ocarina of Time 7 by now.

@BarryCurzon @NINtendo_maya As I said, a better awareness on how people with limited coding knowledge are going to interact with the code so as to create clear instructions on how to utilize said code. It's like not including an instruction manual to a piece of furniture when most people aren't carpenters.
English

@graveleater_ @NINtendo_maya What does user friendly mean? Can you give me an example of something that should change?
English

@BarryCurzon @NINtendo_maya Im aware of that, and the site should fix that, but that doesnt change my critique that devs who decide to upload their code to github should try and make their shit user friendly. That's how it goes for any platform but devs seem to think they're too special to do that.

@ItsMeBeff_ important facet to gerson's abd alvin's character and should be considered when talking about these guys but to focus only on whether or not gerson is a good parent is about as interesting as talking about whether toriel is a good parent imo. It's just a moral scaling discussion.
English

@ItsMeBeff_ I just dont think there's much other than implications to talk about with gerson. We have no idea how he raised Alvin or how involved he was in his life or anything, other than gerson admitting to not outright telling Alvin to follow his dreams. I think it's definitely an
English

@graveleater_ It's not unusual to feel frustrated when you get lost. That's okay.
English

@graveleater_ But the code is easily accessible. It's literally right there. You can browse it directly on the website, or clone the repo, or download it as a zip.
English

@ItsMeBeff_ And as for gerson, there is so little info as to what he was like as a parent that even trying to talk about his dynamic with alvin is kind of shallow.
English

@ItsMeBeff_ People always bring up these parents as being bad parents but no one ever brings up that these kids are also not great at being kids to the parents. A parent child relationship is mutually exclusive, despite the parent carrying more responsibility.
English

@goldensflowers There's definite significance, at least thematically. There's a reason both susie and ralsei have obscured faces which are then revealed at the conclusion of chapter 1, and what that means regarding kris' character who hasn't revealed their eyes yet.
English

@Frift4 I dont get this sentiment that github is somehow this underground secret solely for developers when it's just a hub for code. Anyone with a computer and has a specific problem need solving, they're going to end up on github and they're going to be frustrated, like it or not.
English

@graveleater_ If you end up on Github without coding knowledge it means you got lost.
If your looking for some FOSS program to download you go to that projects website.
English

@Frift4 Finally a reasonable explanation. I think this shit should be more accessible and the idea that code has to be gatekept needs to die, but you're right that coders dont owe anyone anything, even if I think it's generally more helpful for everyone to have easily accessible code.
English

@graveleater_ Because fitting MY solution that I created to solve MY problem to YOUR problem is usually just a lot more work than it's worth it.
People share their code because they think it might be useful for someone. That doesn't mean they owe the general public anything.
English

@BarryCurzon @NINtendo_maya And you still haven't offered anything substantial to your argument as to why improving the site is somehow impossible or unrealistic, but go on and keep pretending to know what you're talking about.

@BarryCurzon @NINtendo_maya I do know what i want, a more user friendly way to access open source software on the platform that hosts said open source software. There seems to be no reason not to, save for some nebulous concept that dickhead developers dont want to share or explain.
English

@Frift4 What is the point of developing code in the first place? Correct me if im wrong but isn't it to solve some problem or to do something specific? Isnt the purpose of sharing that code to improve said code because there is a mutual benefit in doing so? So why not make it accessible?
English

@Frift4 I always hear how it's a site for developers, but we all know that isn't really true. The site being a host for open source code means that there will invariably be people who are looking for a specific solution to a problem who may not have any coding knowledge.
English

@BarryCurzon @NINtendo_maya Not a coder, not my job to solve it. All im doing is identifying a common frustration with the platform and only getting a bunch of hemming and hawing about it not being for you or it being unrealistic with no actual concrete explanation.
English

@graveleater_ @NINtendo_maya Can they though? How can they make it easier? Be specific.
English

@BarryCurzon @NINtendo_maya Im not asking for a big ass download button or anything, just some awareness from devs that hey you could make shit more accessible for non devs if you're actively uploading to the primary open source repository for code.
English

@graveleater_ @NINtendo_maya It’s a source-available platform :) the open source repositories are the ones with the licence with an express lack of warranty.
What do you want those uploaders to do? They don’t control the UI.
English

@yggdrasilsaltar When it came out I was so excited, hearing how TTYD was amazing and watching a friend play some of Super Paper Mario. Expectations were crushed as I realized this was around the time when mario games were losing unique characters in favor of more toads.
