Just finding out that there’s an extant ancient quasi-Abrahamic religion in which John the Baptist is the most important prophet (Jesus is acknowledged but rejected) that’s based mostly in Iran, Iraq, and Worcester, Massachusetts. Did everyone already know this?

@dnharper @PanasonicDX4500 My partner and I went to Scotland once and drove from Edinburgh to Inverness, a 3-hour drive without stops. The receptionist at our hotel audibly gasped when we told her and rushed to bring us some water as if we'd just crossed the Sahara.

@PanasonicDX4500 The inverse is that when I was an exchange student in London, I went for spring break to Edinburgh, and to hear the Brits at the place I was interning talk, I might as well as skipped off to Kuala Lumpur for dinner.

I worked at a theme park about an hour outside of Philadelphia when I was in high school and every summer there’d be at least one British family who would tell me they were planning to drive to the Grand Canyon or some shit the next day.

@TheDougFiles He's hilarious, but my favorite little acting moment is when he picks up the toy and takes a second to make sure it has a calculator function. It's so subtle but it helps underscore the satire that much more.

For me what most distinguishes The Departed from IA is the fact that Scorcese very wisely did not try to recreate the gorgeous vistas during the rooftop confrontation. We were locked down on that dirty roof.

@graybumblebee Absolutely! Just realised I might have come across as being dismissive of The Departed, but that’s absolutely a key element of why it works in that it knows that some things need reworking for an entirely different context.
