Deviation is something you guys should understand. Where a person departs from a common purpose to do something that does not aid or affect the others, only that person will be liable — though it can still appear on the same charge sheet, just under different counts. Take the Mitch Rapp scenario (if I remember correctly): after the robbery was completed, he fought with Robb and shot him. That is deviation. He moved away from the common purpose of robbery to commit a personal act. This is different from a situation where someone shoots a police officer to facilitate escape — that still falls within the common purpose.
