Most of the conversations that I have about nuclear energy, leads to the same question: “- but what about the waste? -What waste? -Well, you know, it remains highly hazardous for a long time and…” Let me tell you 3 facts about nuclear spent fuel: 1️⃣ A nuclear power plant, supplying energy to a large city with millions of residents, consumes less than half a liter of uranium daily, resulting in less than half a liter of spent fuel produced each day. AND: About ~95% of this waste can be recycled, like France currently does. 2️⃣ No human has ever been harmed by nuclear waste. Contrary to common perception, spent nuclear fuel is in solid form, securely packaged in high-level waste containers (ultra-strong containers) designed to withstand extreme conditions and provide secure long-term storage for radioactive materials. Also, we have precise knowledge of its location and composition. 3️⃣ After ~300 years, the harmful radiation diminishes. Therefore, we store it in deep geological repositories. Finland's repository, Onkalo, is a notable example, with negligible environmental impact. The 'waste problem' doesn't even require a solution; it's not a problem at all. And remember: Are you actively advocating for saving the planet? Excellent idea! Construct more nuclear power plants. The more, the faster, the better. This isn't an opinion; it's science.

Check out the results of a great collab between the @NiakanLab, Tom Bartlett (@stats_UCL) and Bourne Hall Clinic. In this work, we predict GRNs in early human embryos using transcriptional mutual information inferences refined by chromatin accessibility: doi.org/10.26508/lsa.2…

Phenomenal run in Berlin as Tigst Assefa of Ethiopia clocks 2:11:53 to smash Brigid Kosgei's world marathon record of 2:14:04. The former 1:59 800m runner was running only her third marathon. 🤯

STACK OVERFLOW JUST ANNOUNCED THEIR OWN AI!!! OverflowAI is a tool, that will also have a VS Code plugin. The way this works, if you are on the site and ask a question, it will produce the answer for you while also citing the sources it used to produce the answer. You can then ask more in the conversational area, even including code, and through Generative AI it can continue building off of the answer. This is the right move on their part and I am confident a lot of people will be trying it out. Everything releases in August! Great job @StackOverflow. Really great announcement at the @WeAreDevs Conference!

Overall, we showed that GRN inference with MICA can be applied to challenging biological contexts with limited sample size, such as the human blastocyst, to make predictions about TF-gene interactions that can be experimentally tested.

Finally, we experimentally tested a GRN involving TFAP2C, JUND, SOX4 and GCM1 that MICA predicted to be conserved in the 3 human blastocyst lineages. Immunostaining of TFAP2C and JUND in human blastocysts and naïve hESCs corroborated their co-expression and intensity correlation.
