It’s honestly sad—tons of empty seats at what’s arguably the most important shipping conference in the U.S.
This panel is world-class, but the global maritime industry is voting with its feet and not showing up to understand the American perspective. Why?
There’s no argument that Europe needs to invest more in its defence that has been underwritten by the US for too long. But what everyone seems to be missing is WHY Europe needs to boost its defence capability. Europe is never going to invade Russia, is it
Apparently in the UK we wake up feeling better than when we went to sleep, a survey has found. Maybe so, but that feeling is completely wiped out as soon as breakfast news is switched on
@SamChambers@HecnyUSA Those “greedy bastard corporations” were huge loss-makers for ages and only found a way to be profitable relatively recently. Disruption favors carriers and lifts rates, and in 4 yrs we have only had 6 mnths free of disruption. Ironic this strike will likely push rates up again
@BrusselsAirport Shockingly long immigration queue at Brussels airport. Started timing and will post when eventually get through. Ridiculous situation has been going on far too long for one of the EUs main airports. Recommend avoiding Brussels until they get their act together
Looks like the train driver pay deal may finally end the rail strikes. Hooray! Soon we can all get back to enjoying the standard unreliability of the network #wheredahellmytrain
@RebeccaCNReid Same with Virgin, with car insurance, home insurance. Renewal notice adds 30% to your premium, call up and threaten to leave and you suddenly get a great new renewal price. Ridiculous system
One of the worst things about human life is that every 18 months you have to call Sky and pretend that you're going to leave them until they find a magical offer which halves your bill which apparently didn't exist when you first rang
Yesterday, I heard someone say they had a colleague nicknamed “Photo Finish” because they always leant slightly forward while walking.
What’s the best nickname you’ve ever heard?
A few chapters into Stephen King’s Holly but constant reference to masking, vaxxing and Trump is making it an annoying read. Adds nothing to the story. That’s my grrr for the day
@MarkSzakonyi@LogTechEric $1 million per FEU but that doesn’t include the carriers’ “stuff happening the other side of the world” surcharge, which is at least another $1 million per 40ft. I definitely read that somewhere, or maybe it was Mark at the pub
Given the depressed shipping demand, if carriers can recover the extra cost of sailing around Africa through different surcharges, how urgent (or not) is it for them to return to the Suez Canal? @greg_knowler@typesfast@manaadiar
