“Tailored intelligence” doesn’t make much sense given that the progress in AI has been thanks to un-tailoring intelligence. I think Mistral is trying to run a business but also does not have the ambition to make actual progress in AI.
Frid 🇪🇺🦌@Frid45

The French startup, Mistral AI unveils Forge, a platform enabling enterprises to build AI models grounded in their own data, workflows, and systems. Not generic AI, but tailored intelligence. ASML, ESA, Ericsson already onboard. Europe is stepping up 🇪🇺

This illustrates an aspect of AI that I hadn't thought about till now: it cuts through bureaucracy. If a big organization is paralyzed by indecision, AI doesn't care. It will happily generate a version 1. And that becomes the starting point, because there is no other version 1.
Jaana Dogan ヤナ ドガン@rakyll

I'm not joking and this isn't funny. We have been trying to build distributed agent orchestrators at Google since last year. There are various options, not everyone is aligned... I gave Claude Code a description of the problem, it generated what we built last year in an hour.

Nice Nano Banana Pro prompt for weather app: CITY=Prague,Czechia Present a clear, 45° top-down isometric miniature 3D cartoon scene of [CITY], featuring its most iconic landmarks and architectural elements. Use soft, refined textures with realistic PBR materials and gentle, lifelike lighting and shadows. Integrate the current weather conditions directly into the city environment to create an immersive atmospheric mood. Use a clean, minimalistic composition with a soft, solid-colored background. At the top-center, place the title “[CITY]” in large bold text, a prominent weather icon beneath it, then the date (small text) and temperature (medium text). All text must be centered with consistent spacing, and may subtly overlap the tops of the buildings. Square 1080x1080 dimension.

@robjhogan @GasRosso @reactnative Ok, watchFolders is mandatory as fileSystem is based on watchFolders. Would be good to add this in the docs? if (this._fileSystem.exists(candidate))

@robjhogan @GasRosso @reactnative with RN 0.72.5 and the flag unstable_enableSymlinks enabled, it looks for the correct paths (node_modules and ../../node_modules) but can't find the hoisted module by yarn workspaces (which exists at ../../node_modules/X)

React Native 0.72.0 is out! reactnative.dev/blog/2023/06/2… Much of the work landed in 0.72 was prioritized from feedback on our community survey, with still more coming! Here are some highlights:

What an interesting moment. We're staring at two distinctly different visions of the future. They may co-exist, but they are radically different takes on what's modern, what's current, and where things are headed. One vision gets the UI out of the way. The other vision is UI everywhere you look. One vision gets the computer out of the way. The other vision mounts a computer on your face. One vision is get it and go. One vision is get it and stay. One vision is about information. The other vision is about immersion. One vision is natural and understands you. The other vision requires new methods of interaction that you have to learn and master. One vision feels like an assist. One vision feels like obstruction. One vision fits with whatever you already have. One vision requires you buy something that fits. One vision is simply text. One vision is anything but. One vision feels like before. One vision feels like after. But I'm not sure which is which.

@devongovett Memoization doesn’t seem like an optimisation option when part of useEffect dependency

You can fix this problem by wrapping each computed value with a function so it actually updates over time, but now you're back to the useMemo problem where you wrap everything just in case. But useMemo is better because it is just an optimization, not required.

Easy to forget, but the debate about signals is the same one we had about 2-way data binding vs unidirectional data flow 10 years ago. Signals are mutable state! They’re bindings with a new name. The simplicity of UI as a function of state is lost when updates flow unpredictably.

@jordwalke I guess the reason for enthousiasme around Signals & co is due to unsolved issues with hooks and will continue to exist until they’re solved

Of course this is one of the first things people suggested when we built react. “Let’s just track the access of data on reads”. Rejected it because it undermines ability to substitute/refactor expressions & predict what will happen. No other part of the language works that way.
Devon Govett@devongovett

With signals, you have to think about how each individual value is propagated. For example, in Solid, these components do different things! Thinking about whether each individual prop can change or not requires global reasoning rather than local.

In case you wonder whether using inline styles vs StyleSheet in React Native matters from a performance point of view—it doesn't. React renderer is smart enough to pass only the style attributes that actually changed through the bridge. Which you can inspect with MessageQueue
