They CAN’T not won’t. You’re describing a “our entire civilization just ended” scenario. A company can’t “do what is in their best interest” when there is no company. Also, it’s not actually in their best interest to obliterate their market. But that’s moot; long before 90% unemployment we will have suffered terrible war, famine, or revolt. We won’t be able to reach 90% unemployment because either so many people will be dead that the percentage of dead will be higher than the percentage of unemployed, or the people would long since have smashed the data centers into oblivion. Have you thought *at all* about the consequences of even 30% unemployment? About what would actually happen? Unemployment in the Great Depression was only 25%.

Almost everything you think you know about the history of technology and capitalism was warped by communist/luddite propaganda of the era. That's happening this time too.

Lawrence Lepard, "fix the money, fix the world"
Richard Nixon is dead. But the chaos he unleashed when he took us off the last vestige of the gold standard in 1971 is now coming to full bloom. This Fourth Turning is entering the very dangerous phase. Pray for peace.

@gregory_nico Devs shouldn't be working on Bitcoin because it's trendy or interesting. They should be working on it because they've realized that it's the best form of money that humanity is likely to achieve in their lifetime, why that's important, and therefore why they should contribute.

Bitcoin is losing too much technical talent to AI and robotics. I keep getting messages from devs who are bored and moved on What's left? A sea of podcasters, influencers, policy bros, and macro analysts. The current quantum mania proves it. Technologists should treat the quantum threat as an engineering challenge, one that can make the protocol stronger. Instead, we get religious mantras, panic, and absolutism.

he's not wrong. Austin bitdevs just announced the end of the longest running bitdevs meetup (in the world?). a lot of the regulars to the meetup have pivoted to an AI focused hang out instead people have pretty singular focus, and the next wave of technical innovation is always more interesting than the last one

Actually, econcomics used to be a branch of philosophy, ever since Aristotle, essentially. Topics of Ethics (Thomas Aquinas), Morality (Adam Smith), Praxeology (Ludwig Mises) are philosophical. And as you say: those who would reduce it to statistics and econometrics are missing the key point.
