I really wanted to be wrong on this, but here we are. Most talking heads are switching their views and admitting we are in bear market. My view: bitcoin has further to fall, probably to $60k-$65k area (ignoring macro factors), so don't try to catch falling knives. This is crypto winter.
Steven McClurg@stevenmcclurg

While most people have been debating that the 4-year cycle is dead, Bitcoin hit its peak 4-year price in October, similar to other cycles, and has went right into the bear portion of the 4-year cycle. See you all in 2027 for the next bull market!

Epstein had informants watching Ripple and XRP from the very beginning. In this document someone is telling Epstein that Jed McCaleb was working on a “secret Bitcoin project” before he left Mt Gox to launch Ripple and the XRPL.

The Epstein files link him to early Bitcoin. This rabbit hole is wild. Jeffrey Epstein secretly funded MIT Media Lab via intermediaries - at least $13.3M USD between him and his associates. During that same window MIT funds were used to support Bitcoin Core developers when core funding was thin. Epstein was referred to as “Voldemort” to hide his identity. Epstein visited MIT Media Lab around 9 times despite denying it . Joi Ito (director of MIT labs) emailed Epstein thanking him: “Used gift funds to underwrite this… thanks” Epstein replied “gavin is clever” to Joi Ito’s email (referring to Gavin Andresen, one of the devs MIT was paying with Epstein’s money). For reference / Gavin Andresen was one of the earliest and most important Bitcoin devs. Epstein held meetings at his mansion with Brock Pierce and Larry Summers to discuss bitcoin Bwteen 2014–2018 emails showed Epstein asking Steve Bannon about crypto taxes and how to avoid campaign finance rules Steve Bannon exchanged hundreds of texts with Epstein, replying “On it” to requests Kevin Warsh is listed in a 2010 email as a potential Epstein dinner invite. Howard Lutnick (CEO of Tether’s banking partner and Trump’s commerce secretary) appears in 2012 travel records linked to Epstein’s island. This mf had ties everywhere holy shit. Imagine what’s still redacted.

If history is any indication, the market cycle low for Bitcoin will occur between October 3rd to October 11th of 2026, plus or minus a few days. I'm sure plenty of rallies will occur between now and then.

Is this view is correct, it would eventually be bullish for crypto, but probably not until later this year. Basically crypto stays weak until stocks drop and makes the Fed do something. Since metals dropped and SPX broke down against Gold, there is a high chance stocks start dropping soon. Short term bearish for crypto, but likely good buying opportunities in crypto later this year
Benjamin Cowen@benjamincowen

Usually after SPX breaks down against Gold, SPX then starts dropping against USD. While it has not started yet, my guess is that SPX starts a correction very soon (probably even February)

The 2025 'Stealth Bear Market' theory from yesterday's pod would explain A LOT: Last year, the headlines screamed bullish. BlackRock was filing paperwork. Fidelity was making moves. Regulatory clarity was on the horizon. Your timeline was full of optimism. But while everyone was celebrating the "institutional adoption" narrative - altcoins were getting absolutely rinsed. - Polkadot. Down 60-70%. - Cardano. Down 60-70%. - Avalanche. Same story. This was a stealth bear market, and most people missed it entirely. Why isn't this common knowledge? Because $BTC masked the carnage. Bitcoin only dropped about 5% on the surface. Looked "flatish" to most observers. Behind the scenes, ETFs and corporations were shoveling $70B into $BTC just to keep it stable. Yuh. Seventy billion dollars of institutional inflows, and Bitcoin still couldn't rally. Without that massive institutional support, we would have likely seen a 2022-style wipeout across the board. This matters because your portfolio probably reflects a bear market, even though your brain thinks we've been in a bull run. That cognitive dissonance is real. You're not crazy. You're not bad at this. The market structure was working against you while the narrative worked against your perception. The practical takeaway from @bitwise's analysis: We're likely rounding a bottom now in the $75k-$80k range for $BTC. But coming out of a bear market isn't a sudden V-shape recovery. It's slow, grinding, and frustrating. Patience isn't just a virtue here. It's the entire strategy.

As happens in one’s life, I’ve been taking stock of my last 40 years. It’s been a wild ride. I’ve gone from consulting for the NSA to watching the early stages of Bitcoin. Then, I met Arthur, Jed, and Chris and worked on coding the XRP Ledger. Now, I’ve spent more than 13 years at Ripple. I can’t begin to explain the depth of my gratitude to this company, the people who work here, and the community that surrounds XRPL. It’s been one of the greatest honors and experiences of my life, second only to my amazing family. The time has come for me to step back from my day-to-day duties as Ripple CTO at the end of this year. I’m really looking forward to spending more time with the kids and grandkids and going back to the hobbies I set aside. But be warned, I’m not going away from the XRP community. You haven’t seen the last of me (now, or ever). The last few months I’ve been tinkering on the side – spinning up my own XRPL node and publishing its output data, researching other use cases for XRP (besides what Ripple is focused on), and more. I truly enjoy this part — getting my hands dirty, talking to builders, coding for the pure love of it — and I’m really excited to get back to that. More to come on this very soon, I’m sure. But back to gratitude — to Brad and Monica — leaders who have been here nearly as long as I have, and are the very soul of Ripple itself. To Chris, who took a huge leap of faith and never wavered. To Arthur, who had the big ideas every time we needed them. To the RippleX team, ledger developers, community members, builders, and everyone else — it’s been an honor being in the trenches with you all. Thank you for everything you have done for the XRPL. I have total confidence in the next generation of leaders and builders – including Dennis Jarosch (Ripple’s SVP of Engineering) – and far too many others to name in the XRP community who will carry the torch. I’ll still be in and out of the Ripple office as CTO Emeritus, and as my last task at Ripple, Chris asked me to join Ripple's Board of Directors to continue supporting the company’s mission and long-term vision...and I accept! I look forward to seeing the rest of you at XRP community events around the world. – JoelKatz
