Middle Grounded
@grounded_middle
Stuck in the middle. Searching for a leader for the 75% of us that aren’t far left or far right. Love 🇺🇸, hate its politics.

Today, Minnesota students and gun safety advocates delivered 8,000 signed letters to House Speaker Lisa Demuth demanding action on gun violence prevention. With days left in the legislative session, @LisaDemuthMN has hidden the bill in a desk drawer to avoid a vote on the reform Minnesotans demand. It’s time she stops playing games and starts taking action to save lives.

Billy Bob Thornton didn’t hold back on Joe Rogan: “Who the hell wants to listen to an actor or musician talk about politics? Just accept your little award and f... off.” He quietly donates to children’s charities but refuses to virtue-signal on stage. He calls himself a “radical moderate” — strong opinions, no tribe. Joe agreed: we need a common-sense party that focuses on “what actually works” instead of “us versus them” tribal warfare. After elections, stop screaming “we’re winning!” or trashing the other side. Hope the winner does a good job for everyone. It’s rare, refreshing honesty in a world drowning in performative politics. When was the last time a celebrity (or anyone) talked politics and you actually thought “yeah, that makes sense”?

Today was a hard day. Mike Moyski and Jackie Flavin sat before my committee this morning and described what it was like to lose their daughter Harper in the Annunciation shooting last August. They asked for two minutes of silence so we could try to imagine (even a fraction of) what their community experienced that day. I've heard many testimonies in my career, but I will never forget those two minutes. And when they were over, we got to work. As Chair of the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee, I moved four gun violence prevention bills forward, including the assault weapons and high-capacity magazine ban authored by Sen. Zaynab Mohamed in direct response to the Annunciation shooting. I also advanced multiple bills I authored myself, including a public awareness campaign for the red flag law I wrote and passed two years ago, which has now been used more than 400 times across Minnesota to separate firearms from people in crisis. I'm never going to stop fighting until we've done everything in our power to ensure no other family goes through what the families of Annunciation have. They, and every family impacted by gun violence, deserves our very best.
