I always find it ridiculous about any straight man or woman beyond 30 talking about their proudest achievements being some stupid degree or career or even things they wrote or made, instead of their spouse/lover, kids, and life they built.

My last ever guest lecture at @TUDelft I noticed countless @Swapfiets in the bike stands, who'll replace yours if you have a flat. I asked how many in the >100p audience had one, at least 15 hands went up. I then asked WTF they are studying engineering for. Never invited back.

Lexus says its upcoming all-electric LFA supercar will use vibrations and other sensory feedback to mimic the feel of a combustion engine. "We’re not just wanting to replicate the sound of the engine: we want to redesign the sound itself so the car feels more alive and authentically connected." The production version of the car is expected to be unveiled at the end of this year/early next year. Concept unveiled in Dec 2025:

While I studied automotive engineering, I was never taught how to change a battery or perform any other basic car maintenance. Apparently, practical skills were so far outside the university’s scope that not even the electives covered them. Unthinkable to let a mechanic with a practical job teach a class. Instead, our possible electives included everything from constitutional law to the history of sexuality (at the university where I did the Erasmus), but nothing remotely practical. Despite all their professed care to produce "well-rounded individuals," universities seem to have an extremely narrow idea of well-roundedness. (thoughts prompted by a car breakdown last night.)
