Delighted to be in the room at East Staffordshire Council @eaststaffsbc as they officially recognised the acknowledges the horrific genocide against the Hazara community that took place in 1891-1893, perpetrated by the forces of the Emir of Afghanistan, Abdur Rahman Khan. The systematic massacre and forced displacement of thousands of Hazara men, women, and children during this period remains one of the most tragic and brutal episodes in Afghan history. #StopHazaraGenocide

Thread 🧵 Last March, Saudi Arabia signed, with Chinese mediation, a memorandum of understanding with Iran. Many observers considered this memorandum a concession by Riyadh in the face of the Iranian rise, which was at its peak in the Middle East. This understanding coincided with the Iranian axis’ announcement of the so-called ‘Unity of Fronts’ strategy. Today, in light of regional changes and the Iranian decline, it seems that the Middle East has entered into a competition between three projects, one of which aims to maintain the previous equation before the October 7 attack, and two of them want a new Middle East of their own. A geopolitical reading of the Middle East today. 1/

Based on my research conducted for Afghanistan International - Pashto, detainees held in prisons operated by the Taliban’s General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) are subjected to 31 different forms of torture during their custody. This study is based on interviews with 38 individuals—nine women and 29 men—who were detained and tortured by agents of the Taliban’s intelligence agency. It also incorporates data from 121 petitions submitted to the Taliban’s Administrative Office of Appeals. These petitions, filed by former detainees, documented their unlawful imprisonment and the torture they endured. The petitions also urged the Taliban’s Prime Minister’s Office to investigate their cases and address the reasons behind their mistreatment. The interviews revealed that the detainees were imprisoned for durations ranging from one month to 26 months over the past three years. Among those detained, 18 individuals who were initially held in provincial prisons were transferred to Kabul after approximately one month, where they faced further torture and abuse. This research sheds light on the systemic torture and human rights violations occurring within the Taliban’s intelligence agency prisons, as reported by both victims and documented evidence.
