Prof. B. Ravindran at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 Across thirteen high-impact sessions at the Summit, Prof. B. Ravindran, Head, Wadhwani School of Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (WSAI), IIT Madras, shared critical insights on building AI systems that are responsible, inclusive, and globally relevant. 🎯 AI Assessments & Assurance 🎥 Watch here: youtube.com/live/ZRKQ6b0c8… Prof. Ravindran emphasized that AI evaluation must be domain-specific, collaborative, and grounded in real-world use cases. Lab metrics alone are not enough — end users must be part of the validation loop. He also called for Global South–focused benchmarks and tools. 🌍 AI for Inclusive Economic Progress 🎥 Watch here: youtube.com/live/dVsLkWPAS… Highlighting India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (such as identity systems and UPI), Prof. Ravindran noted how population-scale AI can unlock access in healthcare, education, and public services, provided we build open, locally relevant AI stacks. 🏛 Responsible Deployment and Use of AI Systems in Social Welfare Delivery 🎥 Watch here: youtube.com/live/Wr8eqpD9b… Prof. Ravindran stressed keeping humans in the loop, welcoming critical feedback, and focusing on solving the right problems rather than accelerating development cycles without accountability. 🔐 Open-source Tooling for Safe, Secure and Trustworthy AI 🎥 Watch here: youtube.com/live/qstAnmC_G… Prof. Ravindran emphasized the urgent need to strengthen AI ecosystems in the Global South, pointing to the lack of adequate benchmarks and datasets to rigorously test models in Indian and regional contexts. Without context-specific evaluation and stress testing, AI systems risk underperforming in real-world deployment across diverse linguistic and socio-cultural environments. 💳 AI in Financial Services In high-stakes sectors, governance, accountability, and policy alignment are essential to transform innovation into dependable, real-world impact. 🌐 Strategic Multistakeholder Dialogue – Plenary Panel: Global South Leadership in AI Governance Learn more: impact.indiaai.gov.in/sessions Prof. B. Ravindran underscored that AI governance must go beyond regulation. He emphasized aligning AI with existing sectoral frameworks - especially in banking, healthcare, and education - while ensuring strong enforcement. Without diligent implementation, governance risks remaining policy on paper rather than practice in society. ⚙ Operationalising Responsible AI 🎥 Watch here: youtube.com/live/T13SgnGJN… Moving from principles to proof, he underscored sector-specific risk mapping, bias detection, clear reporting mechanisms, and the need to hold AI systems to standards higher than humans — advocating for right-sized, domain-specific models. 🔬 Fireside with Sir Demis Hassabis 🎥 Watch here: youtube.com/watch?v=v8hPUY… In a candid conversation, discussions ranged from AGI timelines and the current “jagged intelligence” of models to AI’s transformative potential in scientific discovery. The dialogue reinforced India’s emerging role as a global AI powerhouse. 📊 The Role of Science in International AI Governance 🎥 Watch here: youtube.com/live/xPYSLh7W6… Prof. B. Ravindran underscored the need for stronger scientific evidence to guide international AI governance. He noted that much of the current discourse on AI’s social impact , particularly concerning youth - is drawn largely from Western contexts, with limited India-specific data. 🤝 Global South Research Network For Trustworthy AI 🎥 Watch here: youtube.com/live/pZd2-Pkh-… At the launch of the Global South Research Network for Trustworthy AI, he highlighted the importance of cross-border collaboration - not just for knowledge exchange, but for solving shared, systemic challenges. #IndiaAIImpactSummit #WSAI #ResponsibleAI #InclusiveAI #AIForGood #AILeadership #AIInnovation #aiimpactsummit @ravi_iitm @karthikraman @gitakrishnan @KrishnaPillutla @gsk1992 @GeethR18 @IBSE_IITM @ai4bharat @cerai_iitm @rbcdsai76145 @OfficialINDIAai @EduMinOfIndia @GoI_MeitY @iitmadras

Eighty-six countries and two international organisations have now endorsed the New Delhi Declaration on Artificial Intelligence at the recently concluded India AI Impact Summit 2026. This is a landmark step toward building an inclusive, human-centric and development-oriented global AI framework. As reported by Nature in its coverage of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, this declaration signals growing international consensus around responsible and equitable AI development. In this context, Prof. B. Ravindran, Head, Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, IIT Madras, who chaired one of the working groups at the AI Summit, observed: "While operational details are thin, as is expected from a multilateral declaration, the agreement has consensus from so many countries, including the two AI superpowers. That is an acknowledgement of the growing need to focus on immediate challenges to beneficial AI adoption across the world.” Read the full article here: nature.com/articles/d4415… This insight captures the true significance of the New Delhi Declaration. Beyond principles and policy language, what stands out is the breadth of global alignment, including major AI powers, and the shared recognition that beneficial AI adoption must be accelerated, responsibly and inclusively. At WSAI, we see this as a pivotal shift: * From fragmented AI conversations to coordinated global action * From innovation for a few to access for many * From abstract governance to implementation that addresses real-world development challenges The future of AI will be shaped not only by technological breakthroughs but by how equitably the world chooses to deploy them. #AIForGood #ResponsibleAI #GlobalAI #IndiaAI #WSAI #IITMadras @ravi_iitm @Nature @cerai_iitm @GoI_MeitY @AshwiniVaishnaw @IndiaAiExpo @OfficialINDIAai @SecretaryMEITY
