For those that hope (or worry) that LLMs will do breakthrough scientific research, I've got good (or bad) news: LLMs are particularly, exceedingly, marvellously ill-suited to this task. (if you're a researcher, you'll have noticed this already) Here's why🧵

entire movies that never existed and it’s just incredible. If you love books and movies, this one is for you! As usual you come out of this book with the impression of having read a much longer one because Auster created such “full” stories and characters. 2/2

Just heard the sad news about Paul Auster. He wrote one of my favorite books: “The Book of Illusions”. It’s a story of a man who experienced a tragic loss and reconstructs himself by researching the work of a forgotten movie director. Auster invents and describes 1/2

@deeplyclassical Bernstein of course remains at the top. But this one by Jansons in Oslo is quite extraordinary!

On #EarthDay2024 tell me your favourite recording of Mahler's Symphony No. 3. His epic paean to the wonder of the natural world is the longest symphony in the standard repertoire/ In springtime it may be my favourite Mahler symphony of all. My top 4 today:

@guijacquemet Yes I saw that e.g. for your Fast4DRegistration and it’s fantastic, thanks for your efforts! Makes it easy to try methods, to train people in courses and to reuse data for other purposes. This is ideal, but if people would already just share a sample that would be progress…

Hi @eLife, going through recently advertised papers, I see that many say “All data generated or analyzed during this study are included in the manuscript…” but don’t share microscopy images even when it’s the core method of the paper. Doesn’t your policy consider images as data?

@florianjug @rita_strack @alhufton @CellPressNews Please, please let them know that this is not ok. A large majority of people use this option, which usually means “you’ll never see my data”. And sharing code without data is useless! If sharing all data is too complicated, at least a sample for running the code.

ipywidgets are a great tool with huge positive impact. But at the moment, the project is like a moving ship without a captain. It's public infrastructure that requires maintenance, and it needs financial support to be sustainable. A thread.

@CellRaiser_ @born2raisecell @CellCellPress Very nice work and a lot of interesting data analysis! Also great that the code is on zenodo. Would you consider uploading the raw microscopy data as well to zenodo so that everyone can get access to them in the #FAIR spirit?
