@Gryffix Nah, no sane takes here. Either commit to total genocide of zoomers or go back to bluesky.

I am of the nuanced position that zoomers are babies who need to learn how to cook & should stop building debt over burrito taxis, but that endless concessions on comfort won't make houses affordable and it makes sense that a generation without a future clings to small comforts.

Here's the thing - and this will make people furious but it's true - the economy is not shit. It's fine. Weak in a few spots, but if you think 4.3% unemployment is a shit economy you're just not living in reality. 2009 was a shit economy. 2020 was a shit economy. 2026 is fine.
shizcrey@Shizcrey

I own a home. I cook food. 10 years ago I could get a $5 footlong at Subway and eat half for lunch and half for dinner. Stop being dense, economy is shit and telling zoomers it's all fine they just need to eat like it's the great depression isn't the rebuttal you think it is.

working in a restaurant has made the last few days a nightmare for me. “all restaurant food is Sysco food” no it isn’t. “Gen Zers spend all their money on restaurants!” our average customer is 55 years old.

@clementinetown @nomoretendies Thats actually not why the discourse is sensitive at all lmao. People just dont want to eat only rice and beans – the poor are not "eating better" if theyre just spending more irresponsibly

I think that’s a big part of why this discourse is so sensitive - there’s people who literally don’t work but eat better than those who make mildly above the median individual income, it’s reasonable they are upset about that. Telling someone who makes close to 50% above the median income (working off the 70k example from the op) to eat a turkey sandwich from aldi when people who don’t work *at all* get multiple 12 packs of soda a week for free plus chips and whatever else they want (which also raises the price for others) is obviously gonna upset them… why would it not?

You can tell a SNAP recipient to eat rice and beans. You can’t tell a net contributor taxpayer to just eat rice and beans. These are mammoth hunting first principles and resource allocation at play here

The fact a 12 pack of Coke is now $10.00 in most stores when not on sale is what is keeping people poor. The fact that the average price of gas is above $4.50 a gallon is what is keeping people poor. The fact that the average price of a used car is $26,000.00 in a country with a median income of $64,000.00 doesn't help your case.
Lormif@Lormif1

@CarolinaLion2 Poor people dont usually buy new cars or the average house, never have, and yes spending 20 on lunch is part of what is keeping you poor.

It's honestly a massive market failure if a person producing their own food at home can achieve a lower marginal cost than a competative market of firms solely dedicated to producing hot meals. Can't understand why you would support free markets if they can't even deliver lunch.

the bar for resistance is set lower and lower. cracking open a cold one with the boys is a radical act. Petting a dog is a tiny rebellion. Making a peanut butter sandwich is a reclamation. A self-congratulatory, ineffective revolution indistinguishable from severe depression
Sophie Haigney@SophieHaigney

I do not in fact think “adult friendship is a radical act” or whatever hanging out is actually really normal, one of the normal things you can do, don’t make it weird for no reason

not sure why people think this is a smoking gun against ARFID, like yeah safe foods are generally what you ate as a child and not just a randomly generated selection
ꨄ︎@unfortune_soul

@samplesoojin why arfid people always hate normal healthy food but love cakes, chicken nuggets and fries
