Perhaps she would have gotten promoted more instead of constantly negged. She would have been more creative and artistic. She would be less driven by class anxiety and inadequacy. Maybe even less hunger. She probably would be happier, calmer, more comfortable in her own skin.

@abinashsarangi During interview, probe into their highest impact work, ask about challenges they faced, how they overcame them, what did they do that was singularly attributed to them (vs. to a support structure around them), probe for creativity & ownership mindset (very impt for high agency).

Too many tech companies' interview process is at least partially designed & implemented to make the *interviewer* feel smart & secure about the job they have. Interviewers ought to approach interviews with an attitude of curiosity & assessment rather than hierarchy & judgement.

if there’s one thing i’ve gotten out of a year in lockdown, i can now properly feed myself and cook a lot of my childhood comfort foods (the bar wasn’t high but i’ve surmounted it!)
