Colin Roomes, 45, Wrexham ⛔️⛔️⛔️ A Wrexham man has been jailed after attempting to engage in sexual communication with children who were in fact undercover decoys. Colin Roomes, 45, of Edward Street, was sentenced at Mold Crown Court today (April 30) before Judge R P Rowlands. He admitted two counts of attempting to sexually communicate with a child and one count of attempting to incite a child under 16 to engage in sexual activity. The court heard that in July 2024, Roomes contacted two individuals online, believing them to be girls aged 13 and 15. The conversations began on a messaging app before moving to WhatsApp. In reality, both accounts were operated by adult decoys, with the material later handed to police. In one conversation, he discussed sex and told the girl she needed "an older man" to explain it to her. In another, he encouraged a girl to send a photograph of herself while in the shower. The court was told Roomes had previously been convicted in October 2023 for attempting to sexually communicate with a child. He was given a community order at the time, along with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Sentencing, Judge R P Rowlands said the defendant had been given an opportunity to change but went on to commit further offences within months. He said Roomes had "returned to type" by seeking out individuals he believed to be young girls while still under a court order. The judge said the offending was aggravated by the previous conviction and the fact it took place while he was subject to a community order. He concluded there was no realistic prospect of rehabilitation in the community and that the offences were too serious to be dealt with outside of custody. Roomes was jailed for two years. A Sexual Harm Prevention Order was imposed for 10 years, and he will remain on the sex offenders register for the same period.
