i am one of the biggest opponents of contemporary and a lot of performance art, 99% of it is just straight trash let's take this for example: i don't even know what to say, this is... just not good and also very pointless and then pretend art connoisseurs say to me "oh, you don't understand the context of this in the wider art world" or "art is subjective and to some people this is art" to which i reply SHUT YOUR BITCH MOUF just bc something is new, it's not automatically worth something. i could spit in your face and give you a left hook and call this performance art and it would also be trash. new does not equal worthy. that being said, i know that my taste should not be any benchmark to measure art quality against. there is tons of art that i don't like but i am okay with it being called art. i really only have one criteria that needs to be fulfilled: it can't be ridiculously simple like a banana taped to a wall or a completely unicolor canvas or something stupid like pouring fiddy red bulls over you. my assessment of art has a bottom line and i am not even strict: a lot of art looks really bad, but i won't critisize it bc it is something the best metaphor for art out there is the emporer's clothes and btw, the people that see art in something really stupid are the most annoying people in the world
