A lot of people are arguing that HTML burns more tokens than markdown. It's true but you can save at least 40% by externalizing the CSS to a template with . This style.css is your formatting so the LLM will never output CSS again. I tested on a 12116 token HTML article and it dropped to 6,723 tokens so -44%! You'll have this:
Hello, world.
...

@trq212 Feels like you are thinking from & promoting an infinite tokens/compute mindset here, but that’s not the reality for many users, esp as VC subsidies decrease. How can a 8B phone model or 15k tokens of claude $$ still have meaning-rich exchange? Markdown. x.com/hackerbara/sta…

Markdown vs HTML. Every time we go from a semantically dense to a semantically sparse format, we lose. Even more today where less tokens from the same content is way better. I can understand we need a better markdown. I can't understand we should replace it with HTML.

the “use html!” or other complex languages for interchange perspective totally misses the semantic-density per token metric. small/local models do SO much better when tokens are focused on meaning only, not a bunch of css and crap

HTML is the new markdown. I've stopped writing markdown files for almost everything and switched to using Claude Code to generate HTML for me. This is why.

weird is good, there are already plenty of non-weird options for people who want something not weird — you should probably get weirder

New AlilGI version pushed w/ a note: "Guy" has historically implied "a man." It has become more gender-neutral ... The history is intentionally part of what is being worked with here.... everyone (and everything?) is just a lil guy sometimes, and they deserved to be loved for it

@kepano how about: what if live Word/GDocs, or any track changes environment, was markdown too?
