Tatsuya Imai and Kazuma Okamoto will have new teams by Sunday. With both being represented by Scott Boras, my guess for each would be Imai to #Phillies and Okamoto to the #Angels. Those are purely guesses though.

The Angels have already shown their true colors with Shohei Ohtani. They milked every dollar from international fans, let his contract expire, and never genuinely tried to build a winner around him. Kazuma Okamoto deserves better. Their focus was always ticket sales, which is why they never traded Shohei when they could have landed a massive return. Arte Moreno used Ohtani’s revenue and international attention for his own benefit rather than helping him win, something that should disgust any NPB talent considering a transition to MLB. Bob Nutting is far from a saint, but at least the Pirates are finally making real moves to improve. The Angels are rotting at the bottom of the AL West with no clear direction, while the Pirates are trending toward becoming a legitimate contender. With the Padres locked into massive deals for Manny Machado and Jake Cronenworth, the Pirates should be the obvious choice for Kazuma Okamoto. Pittsburgh offers a place where Okamoto can be respected, developed, and given a genuine chance to win behind a strong pitching core rather than being exploited for every possible dollar from international fans and enduring years of losing seasons as Ohtani did in Anaheim. And, of course, being on a team with the best pitcher in baseball is an added incentive.
