@ericfjacobs @Aerych_ @_TheBlueTorch So to have the same rights as anyone else, the people from DC have to move to another state? Making DC a state is aboslutely possible, it's just not popular with republicans because DC would be a blue state. Same with Puerto Rico btw.

@hamue20000 @Aerych_ @_TheBlueTorch Why? No one who lives in DC can’t move to a state. They are a huge cost to taxpayers, and DC statehood would only worsen it. This unconstitutional movement is about the Democrats’ lust for power when they keep losing fair elections.

@hamue20000 @_TheBlueTorch Proletariat? LOL. We don't have a proletariat in this country. That's what they have in poor and communist countries to keep the poor down and shackled. The poorest Americans are very rich compared to most of the world... but you know that already.

@hamue20000 @_TheBlueTorch Most of my views on the black, white, issue come from Dr. Thomas Sowell and his book, "White Liberals and Black Rednecks," Comedian Chris Rock had some funny stuff about Redneck black folks once upon a time.

@eric6161 @_TheBlueTorch that whole book to justify your race science and it doesn't even make sense. The scots and the southerners are not the same thing, scotland is not a shithole, it has a social safety net and generally good anti-poverty measures and meritocratic politics.

No changes were necessary on my part. Conservatives have long insisted on confronting facts as they are, however inconvenient, rather than reshaping them to fit a narrative. Too often, others show little interest when their own side is caught in major falsehoods. As for the term "white trash": What is often called redneck or cracker culture traces back centuries to the lawless border regions of Britain—the Scottish Highlands, Ulster, and northern England. These "North Britons" brought with them distinctive patterns of behavior to the American South: a touchy pride easily provoked to violence, a penchant for rough-and-tumble fighting that included gouging eyes, biting off ears, and no-holds-barred combat; lax sexual mores and improvidence; and a conspicuous aversion to steady, disciplined work in favor of immediate gratifications and excitement. Many of these settlers and their descendants became slaveholders, particularly smaller ones in the backcountry. Enslaved Blacks, living in close proximity and largely stripped of their ancestral cultures, absorbed key elements of this prevailing Southern white culture—speech patterns, attitudes toward violence, work, education, and family. What some today mistake for an "authentic" Black identity is, in large measure, this redneck culture that persisted among segments of the Black population long after many Southern whites moved beyond it. This is not ancient history. Such patterns have had measurable consequences for both groups, though they affected a higher proportion of Blacks, given that the vast majority lived in the antebellum South. The real question is whether progress is advanced by romanticizing a demonstrably counterproductive culture—or by recognizing it for what it is and leaving it behind, as other groups have done when they chose advancement over preservation of old ways.

@eric6161 @_TheBlueTorch @grok I don't debate soulless robots that have their talking points from some idiotic billionaires. Besides, go discuss you climate change nonsense with Grok, you might learn something.

If I find Grok to be wrong, I challenge him with other questions till I help him get right. If you know your subject as well as you think you do, you might have challenged him and found your ideas lacking. I'm open but don't take your word for it and more than you'd take my word that climate change is a hoax.

@hamue20000 @_TheBlueTorch Most people in those days didn't vote; you had to be a property owner back then. It kept the white trash from selecting our government.

@eric6161 @_TheBlueTorch @grok (2/2) and the stuff about Washington just isn't true. He spent his last years hunting down slaves that escaped from his estate. He was aboslutely viscious and extremely brutal to his slaves. These men were instrumental in the founding of the US, but they were bad people.

@RinTheMage @iacodino @JakeFitzsimons true, but our social liberals are where Bernie's at in the US, but I guess your whole system is slanted to the right because the FBI spent decades eradicating any leftist centiment in the US.

@hamue20000 @iacodino @JakeFitzsimons That's because liberalism is fundamentally a right wing bloc, we socialists are leftists, we support a worker based market economy, while liberals are still capitalists at heart and capitalism is a right wing idealogy. It's the same here in the United States.

@Hitchhikers042 @TheGlobal_Index my guess is that they only put cities with 100k+ people on the list, as the swiss cities that are just shy of that are nor on there.

@ericfjacobs @Aerych_ @_TheBlueTorch then do that but you then would also have to let DC basically be its own country, because otherwise their taxes would at least partionally still go to the federal government.

D.C. boasts a per capita personal income of ~$116k, way above the national average of ~$73k. Yet it has almost no factories, farms, or traditional productive industries. Its economy runs on the federal government. Granting statehood would hand this small, federally dependent jurisdiction outsized influence over the rest of the country. Worse, D.C. already receives ~$25k more per resident in federal spending than its residents contribute in taxes. We could simply redirect 100% of D.C. residents’ federal income taxes back to the District itself, fully eliminating the “taxation without representation” complaint without rewriting the Constitution or creating a new state.

@TheGlobal_Index Solely because we have an exchange rate that’s 50% over valued. Local businesses destroyed by it. Tourism down heavily. The decision makers at the SNB have a lot to argue for. How is this in anyone’s interests? $CHF
