One of the takeaways I found most immediately applicable from "Dare to Lead" was the contrasting portraits of Armored vs Daring Leaders. Armored leaders lead from unreckoned hurt. Daring leaders lead from boundaries, empathy, and vulnerability. From "Dare to Lead" by @brenebrown

Vulnerability is the birthplace of so many amazing things: Joy, Feelings, Connection, Creativity, Love. If we attempt to protect ourselves by turning off vulnerability, we cut ourselves off from all of these. Sketch takeaway from the book ‘Dare to Lead’ by @brenebrown

I'm 36. Stress controlled me for years so I turned to neuroscience. After 1200+ hours studying elite athletes, CEOs & psychologists, my toolkit is now full of powerful neuro-hacks. Here are the top 7 that will change your life:

Public service announcement for managers and coaches: you can't judge effort by results. Inconsistent performance doesn't mean people aren't trying their best. It often means they're doing their best in the face of turbulence. In humans, variability is a feature, not a bug.

I’m quite used to the cruelty students can face when they apply for a US visa but this one broke me. We offered admission to a stellar, talented & hardworking student. After months of work and hundreds of dollars, an embassy officer saw him for 5 mins & said no. why? …

The Karpman's Drama Triangle has radically transformed the way I look at interpersonal dynamics. As you make decisions, be on the lookout if you're coming from a place of Rescuer/Hero, Persecutor/Villain, or Victim, because drama is sure to follow. 🎭 Sketch from @tkppodcast #60

@TKPPodcast 🪞 In order to climb to healthier sources of motivation, whether individually or as a team, Jim Dethmer suggests you must first build self-awareness (where am I today, why), meet it with acceptance, and then you can shift higher.

Many high-achievers have a harsh inner critic that tries to motivate with fear, guilt and shame. It threatens that without it being hard on you, you'd get complacent and not succeed. But there are far healthier, sustainable sources of motivation. 🧵 From @tkppodcast Ep #60

The antidote to fear isn't courage, it's acceptance. Emotional intelligence knowing what you're feeling in the moment, and have a receptive relationship to it. Instead of pushing fear away, listen to its wisdom. Sketch from @tkppodcast Ep #60: Jim Dethmer: Leading Above the Line

@TKPPodcast 😥 Sadness indicates something is being lost. It doesn't like listen when you try to put it in a corner, it just re-emerges when you're not wanting it to (just like that scene from Pixar's Inside Out).

@TKPPodcast 😡 Anger rises when a boundary was crossed. It's an action-biased emotion and sign something needs to stop or change. 😱 Fear is trying to protect you from something. It can be a sign post for something you care deeply about, or something you aren't giving enough attention to.

When reflecting on decisions, a good question to ask is "Was the wisdom of all emotions welcomed in the decision process?" I've been working on getting better at listening to what the unpleasant emotions are trying to say, rather than shoving them away 🧵 From @tkppodcast #60

The first key skill of conscious leadership is self-awareness, and the first act of self-awareness is checking in. Where am I at this moment, above of below the line? Am I open or closed? Defensive or curious? Sketch from @tkppodcast Ep #60: Jim Dethmer: Leading Above the Line
