May 13, 1983 — Columbia Pictures dropped one of the coolest '80s action thrillers: Roy Scheider as a hotshot LAPD pilot testing the ultimate high-tech attack helicopter packed with insane surveillance gear and firepower. Directed by John Badham (WarGames), it's equal parts airborne spectacle, conspiracy thriller, and commentary on police militarization. That opening weekend it topped the box office, and the practical chopper effects still hold up today.
