We just launched Monaco. Here’s the exact playbook we used. I hope it's helpful to other founders and startups: 1. The launch video: most launch videos I see orient around some stressed out person at their desk or some philosophical approach to company building. Do not do this.

A bit of perspective. @hdubugras has just turned 30. @pedroh96 turns 30 in a few months. At that age, I was only just getting started on Airwallex…. still early, still learning, still figuring things out. Henrique is already onto his next chapter, starting Orca. And I have no doubt Pedro will go on to build more companies in the years ahead. Both are exceptional founders. And on a personal note, Henrique has given me some of the best advice of my entrepreneurial journey. This is still very early in their story as they are true entrepreneurs at heart ❤️

First principles thinking have never been so valuable. In a post-LLM world all company processes need to be reimagined and many times functional experience is a drag. Founders have never been at such a premium!

Setting the bar high is more effective than setting more rules. An interesting way to think about centralization, from my chat with @fabloisi:

Fifth Third Bank just handed Brex their entire commercial card infrastructure. $5.6 billion in volume. Every market Fifth Third operates. Default solution for all commercial banking clients. Two Brazilian founders couldn't get approved for a business credit card in 2017 because they had no US credit history. Eight years later, their company powers a top-10 US bank. --- But here's what most coverage missed. Fifth Third isn't doing this to compete with fintechs. They're doing it to compete with JPMorgan. This bank is closing a $10.9B acquisition of Comerica. When that happens in Q1 2026, they become America's 9th largest bank. $288 billion in assets. Building enterprise-grade spend management internally? Years. Hundreds of millions. Maybe never gets there. Plugging into Brex? Live next quarter. --- This quote struck me: Pedro Franceschi (Brex CEO): "By gaining access to roughly 8% of the U.S. commercial banking sector through a single partner, we're delivering agentic finance solutions at unprecedented scale." 8% of US commercial banking. One partnership. !!! --- The "fintech vs banks" framing was always sort of wrong. The real question: who becomes infrastructure, and who stays application? Brex is heading towards infrastructure. September 2024: Launches "Brex Embedded" — their infrastructure play December 2024: Fifth Third becomes their anchor bank customer The corporate card for startups is now the engine behind a $288 billion bank. --- The TAM shift here is massive. Brex started by capturing 1 in 3 US startups. Great business. But it has a ceiling. Commercial banking infrastructure? No ceiling. And you don't have to beat banks to win. You make them your customers. --- Fifth Third's CEO put it clearly: "The future of business demands financial platforms that do more than process payments—they must power growth." The subtext: We're not building this ourselves. We're buying the best version that exists. That's the new competitive reality for enterprise fintechs. Not "beat the banks." Become the supplier to the banks.

Today we’re announcing the most significant partnership in Brex’s history. Brex is becoming the corporate card for tens of thousands of Fifth Third Bank’s commercial banking clients, unlocking $5.6B in commercial card volume and access to 8% of the US commercial banking customers. 98% of businesses in our country are still using legacy corporate cards. Mid-sized businesses in industries like construction, infrastructure, medical services, shipping and logistics are critical to the US economy, yet their finance teams still operate incredibly manually. By combining Fifth Third’s trust and distribution with Brex’s agentic workflows, we’ll help these businesses save thousands of hours per year of manual work, and better allocate their capital towards what matters. What began as a card for startups has become a full-stack intelligence platform for finance, now serving 300+ public companies and tens of thousands of mid-sized businesses. Grateful to Tim Spence for the partnership and vision of building this together. This is a major moment for commercial businesses nationwide, and for Brex’s next era of growth. Onwards! 🚀

After Brex I had decided I didn’t want to start another company. But I found my calling. I’m starting another fintech company that can change the world. I wasn’t looking to startup another startup but this one was impossible not to. The opportunity is too big. But the problem is very technically, operationally, regulatory and financially complex. So I’m looking for a founding CTO that is interested in coming in this adventure with me. It’ll be hard, it’ll take long, but it’ll be worth it. Signs you’re a good fit: - You're a technical dictator, not a facilitator. Consensus is cosplay for avoiding accountability. - You've built systems where bugs mean lawsuits, not rollbacks - You believe big engineering teams are a symptom of bad architecture and weak leadership - You're obsessed with ontologies and data models. You know most systems are rotten at the core because engineers treat modeling as boring. - You optimize your own taxes, loans, and entities like it's a competitive sport. You think most people leave money on the table because they're lazy. - You've optimized your LLM setup obsessively. Engineers who use ChatGPT with default settings are bringing a mass knife to a gunfight. - You think "speed vs. quality" is a cope for teams that are bad at both. - Makes fun of 9-to-5 engineers that rest-and-vest - You have an extremely high bar for talent and still aim to be the best engineer on your team. Not secretly. Openly. - You believe the PM role exists because most engineers are lazy about understanding the problem. The best engineers make PMs redundant. The role is in person. In the Bay Area. All-day every day. If you’re interested, send me an email at: henrique@brex.com (we don’t have a name yet!)

I am thrilled to announce that I am joining @ExpediaGroup as their first Chief AI & Data Officer! ✈️ This role is a perfect storm of personal passion and professional opportunity. First, it takes me back to the roots of my career: applying SOTA AI to consumer-facing products that impact millions of people. But it’s also personal. As a Barcelona native, I grew up living and breathing tourism, and my love for travel has only grown over years of exploring the world. 🌍 I am convinced that travel is one of the verticals most ripe for AI disruption. There’s a reason nearly every GenAI demo starts with a travel planning use case! It is the perfect problem space. But to move beyond demos and actually make travel better, you need two things: scale of data and deep domain expertise. @ExpediaGroup has gathered both over many years. I can't wait to work with the team to combine that massive data foundation with advanced AI to build proactive, predictive, and deeply personalized travel experiences. Let’s go! 🚀

Memory on LLMs is a big moat. My ChatGPT answers even using less power models give me better answers to my questions than all other models because of memory/context... This has been stronger than I originally imaged it to be!
