I'm not normally a words puzzle fan, but enjoyed the 'before and after' from @mscroggs new puzzle bug, go check it out (don't worry, has number puzzles too)

Mastodon or bluesky? More than happy to join the crowd if enough people leave. Been great to have a maths bubble here, but the ownership has been off for some time, so always looking for a good replacement

Interesting to read about @mrbartonmaths using AI to generate multiple choice maths questions. Our school did a little on this at inset and I was quite frustrated with a lot of the results, so glad to see it's not just me!

Love old maths/puzzle books so cool to find out about @mathsjem using mathpix! I'd never heard of it, and the main reason I underuse these older resources is the lack of digitalisation, game changer :)

@MEIMaths @spacegovuk How many hours of material would we need to pilot? Sounds amazing, but I worry my HoD won't want me spending ages on it :(

@Ridermeister We were quite shocked with just how similar they were tbh. As if they'd asked AI to come up with a similar exam or something.

@CNMMathsJam Got plenty more like it from some old puzzle books I'm flicking through. Maybe I'll collate some best ones and send to @stecks for people to jam with :)

A farmer has a field in the shape of a regular hexagon, with a side length of 40m. A horse is tied to a rope at one corner of the field. The rope is 50m long. What percentage of the field can the horse roam in? A silly story, but I like the mathematical problem solving required!

@cluzniak I was reading this in an ancient puzzle book recently. Not sure if this one or one near it in the book, but the belief was it was an adoption of an old Roman puzzle. I'm sure all the classics go back way further than we always think. Such great puzzles :)

Reading a book about the history of riddles, and came across this one by mathematician! (Tartaglia): "A man dies, leaving 17 camels to be divided among his heirs, in the proportions 1/2, 1/3 and 1/9. How can this be done?"
