@halvarflake Hasn’t the complexity within EE risen a lot compared to CS? CS is so wide these days from low level embedded to CSS/web page. The high end EE should also pay in that high end.

What people neglect in this: CS jobs pay much better than EE jobs. It's not unusual for strong senior SWEs to pull in 1m+ at a FAANG. It is very very unusual for an EE to reach that level of comp.

CS is completely dominating mindshare among engineering programs in high schooler's minds - I see the anecdotal information as my own kids and their peers consider college. Its almost like the death of Moore's law is followed by the death of EE too! semiwiki.com/events/314964-…

A relevant math problem: Assume you have a population of size N where N is very big. There are two different types of accounts in the population, A and B. Given a random sample of 100, if the true distribution is A:B::20:80, what is the chance that we see A:B::5:95 in the sample?

@mobav0 Do you have a list of landmark papers you give people to read?

Clarification: When I say you can get away with a few landmark papers, I mean understanding them well. Not being a major contributor to a few landmark papers lol 😂

This is probably well-known in some circles but not everywhere. The most important skill for Research Scientists in AI (at least at @OpenAI) is software engineering. Background in ML research is sometimes useful, but you can usually get away with a few landmark paper.

There should be a maximum thread size. My suggestion is 3 tweets

@bryancsk I'd be very impressed if someone can properly crack that with DL in the next few years but then again DL is really popping off recently

Something that generates lyrics and music from a seed phrase would be really cool in enabling wider creation of music.

Not sure who needs this, but the best steak restaurant in the world is in Paris. It's tiny, no tourists know about it and I know where it is.

challenge: We have 35 replicas of a haskell service. The 35th replica always ends up maxxing out the CPU and starts throttling whilst all other replicas are fine. How to figure out what's causing this? Should I redeploy with profiling? How do I live profile a service?

@coderbyheart Joining a startup is risky but there is also some upside in case it goes well. Job market still okey so they should be able to land somewhere good

@bennpeifert Quit coffee!! [ur not going to do it 🤣] just see how weak coffee ☕️ makes people because like alcohol it creates decency and takes “power” away from you… imagine having all that “power” back! 😁

I’ve been talking to research colleagues about our field. There are only 300 of us on earth, but when you ask who is getting paid to do the research you realize that everyone is working on projects having nothing to do with it… we are each largely self-funded.
