most fun project I did at opendoor in 2017? was being responsible to get the largest real estate brokerage in AZ (od brokerage) compliant in 45? days - having basically no useful compliance, legal, real estate, experience. I was 22 and I really wanted to a be a pm at this point (got hired at 21 as biz ops). they said I could work as the responsible person with 2 engineers and as many ops people as I wanted as long as opendoor passed the are audit. first time being responsible for something which if it failed, probably would've paused all of opendoor transactions and invited scrutiny of every state regulator. lo and behold...we nailed it .. and I think the regulator said they wished every real estate company had the same software. it was half product and half ops and the system we built still runs at opendoor. probably helped me build my reputation at the company beyond the little pod I worked on and I guess lead to many opendoor leaders investing in the next thing I did still remember riding that excitement for a while. iirc @evancharles got me this hat
