@usagibeats_ @Akai_Pro @AKAI_JP I had the original Akai MPC Live, pre-ordered, which was anything but live. If the Akai team adds a live looper in this small format, it'd be nicer.

Different schedules, accommodation is temporary, most rent, private matters such as dating life, most of their time spend at work and have just a few hours for themselves and have to clean, cook, rest, etc. It’s hard to entertain others in the lift if you are rushing to take a dump at home…

Doing something slightly unhinged next month. It’s been almost two years since I moved to London and, in a building of 105 units, I only speak/ know 3 people. So I had a random idea, host a dinner party for my neighbours. Our Building management, despite the expensive rent we all pay, offered to cover “drinks” with a cap. Thankfully, T413 has a solid reputation, so parts of the evening are being sponsored. Over the next few months, I’ll be working with chefs to host my neighbours. This will either be a genuinely brilliant way to meet new people or a beautifully organised disaster. Either way, we really need to start speaking to our neighbours more. I’ll never understand why Londoners are so antisocial.

@alexkehr AI today at it’s infancy changed the reality of work! But people like you believe that human workers, which are questionably much slower, must work in an office to be productive.

it’s fascinating how deeply people thought remote work was the future now any company still leaning into it doesn’t get taken seriously and any employee who insists on working remote is considered a red flag

Internally, this UI refresh wasn't straight forward as a project. It started with me disliking consistency problems and lack of visual queues on what you're looking at in Linear. A small team was formed and started to explore a vast space of problems. Too vast in hindsight, and good changes were intermingled with controversial changes. At some point we had to split out the good parts and hand the rest of the ideas to a new team that would have a more tight focus on "just a visual refresh" and not changing the information architecture. Sometimes you need a bit of a mess in order to clean up your mess.

@overlook_motel Thank you! I’ve tested Oxlint native before and was quite happy. Navigating politics amongst teams that like to share setups can be quite challenging for adoption, so ESLint plugins support wins any opposition. Hope to adopt it immediately!

Oxlint JS plugins have reached alpha. What does that mean? A linter that runs at Rust speed AND supports the existing ecosystem of ESLint plugins. After a great deal of work by many hands, the alpha release signals that we feel it's now ready for usage in real-world projects.

@uganda_sk8bding This skatepark looks much better and easier than the other one along the busy road. Which makes the skateboarders there even more impressive! Good luck and keep up with the initiatives, hope to see one of you at @StreetLeague one day

@jianxliao I've been a hiring manager in a few places, and I can assure you that most people will just waste your time. You need someone loud who will hire you urgently. You live in the age of Tinder! It's a clown show.

Yesterday I had my first coding interview, at one of the big AI labs, after 4 years of being a founder. It was a disaster. The task? agents algorithm. something I work with literally every single day. I forgot basic js syntax. blanked on how to delete an array element. panicked on recursion. The solution was crystal clear in my head. I could see exactly how to write it. but my hands just... couldn't. The knowledge is there. the muscle memory is gone. 3 years of vibe coding did this to me. I haven't written code manually since. I just read it, design systems, think in architectures. Somewhere along the startup journey, I stopped being a coder. I became someone who just ships. Am I alone in this? Sitting there, embarrassed, I think that's actually the right direction. We used to write code. now we read it. soon with agentic engineering, we won't even need to read it. we'll just architect.

What was proposed in my comment, to help the OP understand where that's coming from historically, is to evaluate the complexity of interactions, state management, principles such as accessibility, user needs, appeal and more. Surely we don't need GUI-like operating systems such as Linux GNOME like desktop. In fact, I'm pretty sure everyone here would be much more comfortable interacting on Twitter/X via terminal. I mean, the war on telnet interfacing for IRC VS IRC clients is still going on for some folks. Myself, prefer to let go, accept elegance. If you don't like it, great, dismiss it! Move on!

Why do frontend devs put all their logic in "components"? I came up in the winform desktop all days and knew back then, as juniors, that it was an anti pattern to couple business logic and UI so tightly. How does frontend still not have a concept of architecture?

@__morse This looks great! Maybe you can promote it to a wider audience; at the moment, it seems to be targeting Effect users. Most regular users would surely appreciate learning!

@screenstudio Can you consider introducing a sidechain option in the background audio section? To make the vocal sit in the beat rather than just on top. Use sidechain compression on the instrumental track, e.g. on the vocal dynamics to control the instrumental track volume. Happy to help or test it for you!

@screenstudio exporting a recorded video with 1.2x, 1.8x speed edits. The audio is fine in the timeline, but not when exported. The final audio sounds robotic. Tested exporting studio, compressed web, etc., and updated to the latest, same issue! Spec: macOS 13.7.8, screen studio v3.6.0-4214. Switched from output audient id14, macbook default speakers, etc same issue. How to save the recording preventing the audio compression failure?
