@fuglyblurple @seintlaurent It really depends on what anyone is mostly reading, and I have a feeling most of these people read almost exclusively in 1-2 very accessible genres.
Nothing bad about it until "you should be able to read a book in 3-5 hours" becomes an expectation.

@seintlaurent I’ve been worriedly reading these posts thinking I have a problem. I read all the time WAY slower than anyone says in the comments. Maybe because I stop often and think about the symbolism etc, try to figure out mysterious plots, go back and read beautiful sentences…

i think everyone is overestimating how long it takes to read a book. some books do be long but your average book takes like 3-5 hours in total.

People may disagree, but The Corrections is actually really good. I still remember this key passage that brings it all together--and even if you think family is a boring topic, like I did back when I was in my twenties, you still have to hand it to Franzen for the way this lands.
