@dylanwiliam Only if you ignore significant digits. Sounds like the company needs a lesson on operations with sig figs. If we did this in chemistry, an important consumer application of that being pharmacy (for example) bad things would happen to consumers. How is nutrition science exempt?

OK maths tweeps; here’s what I think might be a good ‘hatsumon’ (big question) for a lesson on rounding. A US manufacturer of spray oil claims that a 1/4 second spray contains zero calories. Can this be true?

Every machine in a Hospital that diagnoses your body without cutting you open is based on a principle of Physics, discovered by a Physicist who had no interest in Medicine. If you think the world doesn’t need Basic Science, or that somehow Science has failed you, think again.

Agree with this 100% @dylanwiliam. Educational expertise is required if our end goal is to teach/scaffold ethical use and actually improve student outcomes (as opposed to providing an irresistible shortcut that subverts student learning).
