No, the argument is that the problem is cultural. Somalis in Minnesota famously do not integrate at all, this continues even with second and third generation immigrants. They maintain their foreign cultures, which is ok except in this case their foreign culture is extremely detrimental to Minnesota. Adopted Somalis growing up in a typical American household do well, pretty much on par with the average American. Its not ethnic, its a rotten culture of corruption.

@SommerChase @IterIntellectus Opposite for me—kid #2 went to bed like an old drunk. Kid #1, before I got the guts to sleep train in stages, looked sickly from severely broken sleep. I reached a point where I decided that was more cruel than letting her cry but teaching to sleep.

"sleep training" a newborn means letting a defenseless baby scream for its mother in the dark until it's either exhausted or has given up on life. the attachment literature is clear that before 6 months, a baby crying with nobody coming learns exactly one thing, that calling for help doesn't work and you even have parents bragging about how they tortured their kid into an 8h sleep you need to attend to every need of your child. they don't have a prefrontal cortex able to understand what's happening. if you love them and care for them, they'll barely cry, and when they do there's a clear reason you can address right away

@SommerChase @IterIntellectus Exactly. I’d add, after 8 months of my first child sleeping only in 15 minute increments, being sleep trained to go 6+ hours was infinitely healthier.

Umm sleep training is letting them cry for 5 mins before going into comfort them You do this repeatedly until they finally go to bed You’re training them to self-soothe You’re not letting them cry for hours Kindly, I’d suggest researching a bit more Sincerely, a dad of 3 who was in charge of sleep training

Why is there outrage around this? A persons life is their life to control. If there is a way for them to quietly exit without causing a mess for others, what’s wrong with that? You can say it’s selfish, weak, that they’re leaving behind others, against God’s wishes, etc., whatever value judgement, but at the end of the day it’s their call to make. It’s better that they go like this than remain if they don’t want to and burden others.

This woman called the police on her neighbors once, three years ago for having a loud party at night. For the next three years, every time the neighbors go by the hour or even their friends go by, they honk their horn in their cars at her house at all hours of the days. She’s grown very irritated at this and feels like this is harassment. The police can’t do anything about people honking their horn at you so she had to suffer in silence until today she finally snapped and laid into them. Its affecting her young children’s sleeping schedules too, is there anything else she can do at this point to get it to stop?

Dude I used to live on this block downtown that had 3 houses throw a party almost every Saturday night. There was never any trouble, and parties would often intermingle. It was an awesome social setting and it's a damn shame more people don't block party like that. We'd have better communities.
