With the right context LLMs can beat most day traders. I pitted 6 AI models against each other to trade a selection of S&P stocks — with access to news, earnings, sentiment etc. — over 3 months. They all outperformed s&p, with the best one (Claude) by almost 4x.

Had my final day at @airbnb last month 🥲 Before leaving, I made a lil' visual love letter to all the fantastically talented yet extremely kind people I got to work with. It's also a recap of some of the work I had the chance to contribute to. As always, the work here is only what has launched so far, with a veritable iceberg of R&D work beneath. Excited to hopefully see bits and pieces of that iceberg (especially the AI bits!) launch some time in the future! It was time for me to dive back into the startup life again. We've been busy building something new over the past months, and I can't wait to share it with y'all very soon!!

I have some big personal news: Detailed has been acquired by Ahrefs. 🎉 I'm also super excited to be joining the company to work on marketing and product. A few months ago Tim Soulo invited me to speak at their upcoming conference in San Diego, Ahrefs Evolve. I brought up an idea I hinted at on the Ahrefs podcast last year, and 24 hours later we were on a call about me potentially joining the company. If you follow me you'll know I'm obsessed with all things strategy and research in this space - and more importantly, doing the work - so to get to do that on a much bigger scale is genuinely a dream of mine. The Detailed SEO Extension and all current features will remain free. In five years it has grown to 450,000+ weekly users, which I'm incredibly grateful for. We'll add new features at some point, while keeping in place what's already there. Detailed will remain a separate brand and I'll continue to personally update relevant projects there. My focus now is on product and tool ideas, research reports, marketing insights and everything actionable we can share to help grow your business. Finally, a HUGE thanks to everyone who has read and shared my work over the years for this to even be a possibility. 🙏 I'm really excited for what's next.

I'm 34 with a ~$4M liquid net worth. There are pleeeeeenty of people out there who have a lot more than me. I'm not here to tell you what the answer is... just sharing how I navigated this same internal battle. At the start, I was grinding 12-hour days to make $10k/month. Now I can make that in my sleep. I’ve done $10k/month... and $200k/month. I’ve worked solo... and managed teams of 10+ full-time staff. So I’ve seen both sides. Here’s what I’ve learnt: Like many, I believed hitting a specific $$ would bring lifelong happiness. At first, it did. I was getting paid well to do what I loved. But once your income outpaces your lifestyle, your brain starts whispering: “More money = more happiness” That’s when the hamster wheel begins. Grind. Burn out. Recover. Repeat. Because society praises the hustle. And deep down, you’re afraid to slow down. This is when I realised: Happiness is the wrong objective. I grew up in a migrant working-class family. My dad always said, "Work hard and make money so you don’t have to go through what I went through." That wired me to fear poverty... and glorify hustle. After over a decade of grinding, in 2024, it hit me: I had burned out multiple times. I hadn’t taken a proper holiday in years. I was operating on autopilot. With one goal: make more money. And I think as a guy, my logical brain thrived with that kind of singular mission 😂 Eventually, I sat down and ran the numbers. Turns out: I could stop working today and still live well... with my wife and parents included. It broke my brain. Because for years, I believed: “Hard work = safety. More = better.” It took over a year to retrain that belief. To be okay with doing less. To feel safe without more. Now? I work entirely on my own terms. My calendar is clear every week (unless I’m catching up with my devs). I train Muay Thai 3x a week... while the rest of the world’s on Zoom. And I’m bootstrapping a new startup... not because I have to, but because I want to. I used to believe work and life were one. Now, I keep them separate... even though I still love what I do. Yes, I worked hard. Burned out even harder. But I was smart with my money. Eventually, my investments hit a number that made me feel both safe and content. Because if you’ve got $4M invested and earn 10% annually… That’s $400k a year... So maybe the real question isn’t: “What MRR will make me happy?” But rather: “How much do I actually need to live the life I want... and how much buffer do I need on top of that?” Whatever that number is, there will be a period where you suffer. Because anything worth having usually doesn’t come easy. We all know that. But once you’re past that point… Work becomes so much more fulfilling when it’s optional. You're not just focused on making more money (your investments cover that), you're purely doing what you enhjoy. To really crystallise the lesson... If I had to start from zero again would I go through the suffering at the start to reach financial freedom again? Yes. That's simply the price for freedom.

We did it!! $1,000,000 in annual recurring revenue. With zero funding. 🥹 And I'm still processing that this is real. No AI hype. No VC money. Just 4 years of hard work building good software to solve a real problem we had ourselves. And never giving up. When I started ProjectionLab as a side project in 2021, I was just a normal engineer working solo on nights & weekends after my day job. I couldn't imagine my little app ever making 5 figures... let alone 7! 🤯 But today, we're a 3 FTE team helping 100k+ households plan for a better financial future.
