Follow-up: I wrote a aggressive piece against her in the #SundayReview (Sunday supplement of Times) and Madame Patkar got damn angry. She called my editor - the late Anil Dharker, and complained against me.
Boss tried hard to get me to apologise. I flatly refused.

I’m just giving a general idea, sir, not to be taken literally. Otherwise, if you go by individual seats, you don’t even need 51% to win, as I have mentioned. You just need the highest vote share, which is generally around 40%.
Now, there are 112 seats where Muslims are near or over 30%, and TMC won 106 of those in 2021. So again, TMC starts with 106 out of 294 already, that’s the 32–35% I’m talking about.
In the remaining seats, voting is divided, for reasons that I've mentioned. Hindus don’t vote as cohesively as Muslims.

It is extremely difficult to dislodge TMC from Bengal.
Bengal had 27% Muslims in 2011, now it may be anywhere between 32–35%. They all vote for TMC. Imagine going into a fight where you need 51% to win, and 32–35% is already in your kitty.
The remaining 65–68% are divided. Some vote for TMC for its socialist policies, some out of fear of repercussions if they don’t, some belong to a self-proclaimed intellectual class whose sole identity is hating BJP, and some older voters remain loyal to the communists, effectively splitting the vote.
So, BJP winning Bengal would be nothing short of a miracle. I hope it happens.

#WATCH | North 24 Parganas | West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 | VVPAT slips allegedly from booth number 29 of Noapara Assembly were found discarded in Subhashnagar of Ichapur Nilganj Panchayat of Madhyamgram Assembly, a day before the vote counting was scheduled in the state.
CPIM candidate from the seat, Gargi Chatterjee, and the Police reached the spot.
Trinankur Bhattacharjee from TMC and Arjun Singh from BJP are also contesting the Assembly elections from this seat.

I have immense respect for You but it is people like You who build narratives with their coloured lens.
I have covered every election since 2002 and was hit by goons in North 24 Parganas. They used my camera tripod to hit me in 2009 after which I was rushed to hospital due to injuries…
Then again I was heckled in 2019 for shooting rigging in booths.
Parties may win or lose.. people have the right to vote and chose..yet lakhs could never vote due to “chappa culture” prevalent as a “norm” in the state since last century but there was never any hue and cry over it from the most respected ones of the society !!
No one can deny that in this election… West Bengal had least blood shed and violence.
I am a proud voter of Bengal…and we respect the decision of the people…
Whoever wins…rules the state with people’s mandate🌟
Yet… If nothing else.. we are very proud of witnessing the most peaceful elections ever…and a historic one for sure…

To my mind, this Bengal election is a litmus test of whether we have fallen below the minimum threshold of electoral integrity, whether electoral democracy has any future at all. I cannot get into numbers, but all the credible information that I have been able to gather so far points to a comfortable lead for the TMC, more than enough to make up for the SIR damage. If despite this the ECI manages to conjure a victory for BJP, this has to be the result of an electoral fraud. Such an (unlikely, despite what exit polls say) event must get the entire opposition to come together and ask if there is any point of contesting any more elections under these circumstances. — Yogendra Yadav

I note with regret that Abhishek Banerjee is challenging the *Union of India*.
Most unfortunate choice of words, but I guess this is a deeply entrenched mindset of all the Trinamool Congress leaders. The tone is set at the top.
