Community is a word thrown about pretty loosely over the last 4 years. DAO's, projects, memecoins all claim it. But there is one institution that commands that term with absolute legitimacy. (I choose the word institution carefully.) @wetikos The Burrow is a rock solid collective of stoners, wasters, creatives, graffkids and losers like no other. You can drop into their daily group chat unannounced, uninvited, unprepared and it matters not. Fools (like myself) are suffered gladly. Always a smile. Always a welcome. And the community show up. Every day. A shared responsibility for leadership (@ifeelsomoldy, @siloHasArt, @TrevElViz, @PapaBeardedNFTs, @OneTakeTony412 and a host of others) ensure that the projet keeps afloat. There's talk of brands, of storytelling, of community... much of it inflated and artificial (apes, penguins, squirrels, whatevs) but what fascinates me is the way the Burrow, these daft badly drawn rabbits, these graff fuelled stoners from detroit and beyond, manage to keep an international momentum that I don't often see anywhere else in this environment. @dam_zine engineered a creative project that crossed boundaries. It is amazing. But the Burrow is the like the punk fanzine of crypto. Persistent, lazy, IDGAF, wild, kind. Brilliant. I salute the whole team. The whole family. Long may you continue. This is how we build, to use a crypto cliche (which i hate) This is actually, just quite good fun and doesnt take itself too seriously. Whcih is a breath of fucking fresh air these days

I think the contemporary art world looks down its snooty nose at digital art let alkone 'crypto' art whatever that is. I dont think anyone is coming any time soon. Closest we got was damien hirst dabbling... and it went nowhere special really. Younger generation of creators who fuck with comms channels like tiktok, video format, ai...

@hersoid I'm not complaining per se, but i think the idea should be how do we onboard other popular artists into this space, if they are not already. To be honest, most aren't even on this platform, so we have to go out further afield to find these artists. In time, they will arrive.

Do you care knowing who this man is, or are you happy with the mystery as to who Banksy is?

When you read about the early history of the Spanish conquest of the Americas, you realize Certain Things about Latin America... From Michele de Cuneo, a Spanish nobleman in Columbus’s second expedition to the Americas: "While I was in the boat, I captured a very beautiful woman, whom the Lord Admiral [Columbus] gave to me. When I had taken her to my cabin she was naked — as was their custom. I was filled with a desire to take my pleasure with her and attempted to satisfy my desire. She was unwilling, and so treated me with her nails that I wished I had never begun. I then took a piece of rope and whipped her soundly, and she let forth such incredible screams that you would not have believed your ears. Eventually we came to such terms, I assure you, that you would have thought she had been brought up in a school for whores."

@thorndyke_art so. instead of complaining what do we do about it? Become the solution not the problem. Education? Curation? Gatekeeping? Decentralised quality control? I dont know.

@hersoid It's the kind of thing we need to see more of, I reckon. It's just that there aren't that many people here smart enough to create it with a strong message, or they can't create the art in a decent way to support the narrative of the art in the first place. It takes a talent..

@thorndyke_art dismaland was great (though I didnt get to see it in person) because it invited a range of artists to participate. It lent the whole concept weight and alleviated the accusations of ego.

@hersoid And the Palestine hotel? Dismaland? Satirical art is something this space is lacking.

Nobody told me going all in on art takes a toll on you. In my case it has been that inextinguishable desire to create something profound, something bigger than myself, something universal and remaining on that part regardless of what's in vogue in the art market.
