I love this and the last part about being a parent has in many ways brought me back to that smaller more meaningful world. It’s as if at times I live through life’s simplicity through my own daughter again. It also makes me realize how at such a young age we have an abundance of creativity and drive to take risk.

When we’re born, our world is tiny, and everything is excruciatingly meaningful At every step of life, our world expands This is exciting, but in the context of a bigger world, the things that felt meaningful in the past feel less meaningful As a 7 year old a Saturday morning bike ride may have felt like the best thing in the world At 35 it might feel somewhat mundane It’s similar if you move from a small place to a bigger city But there’s something beautiful about small worlds and the meaning everything carries within them As we get older, we yearn to feel the intensity of the small world where everything seemed meaningful again We have to chase bigger and bigger highs in the Big World to reproduce the feeling of a Saturday morning bike ride If life was designed as a simulation, then reincarnation would make a lot of sense: allow people to return to limitation, to smallness, to constraint, in order to feel meaning in a bigger way again. Being a parent is another way to cultivate Small Worlds once you’ve gained an appreciation for how magical they are
