Baby boomers aren't selling their homes & why would they? They paid $100,000 for a home 25+ years ago, owe $0 & have $500k+ of equity. "Downsizing" means they'd need to buy something for $450k + take on a 6.5% loan. Many won't move & this will keep inventory low.

I bought a 120-year-old duplex, fixed it up, lived in it and paid it off. Today I am dead free. With 2 tenants. I don't have these problems either

@middle_class_us I’m a young gen xer that dropped out of high school in 95. Worked hard and have none of these problems. Worked swing shifts and got promotions. Most my age said “I’ll never work nights”.

You did everything right. Got the job. Earned the salary. Built the life. Now you’re choosing between: Food. Rent. Transportation. That’s where we are.

@MatrixMysteries I got all of my cookware as hand-me-down from my mother. My silverware came from Walmart. My plates and cups came from garage sales. Who cares about matching stuff?

Americans are waking up to how INSANE everyday prices have gotten. Look at the cost of basic silverware at Target. For utensils. Simple household items… priced like luxury goods. This is what happens when private equity buys everything and controls the prices.

@jonbrooks Lived an hour away from Pittsburgh in rural SW PA. 120 year old duplex in 2004 cost $45k. Spent 20 years fixing it up to be livable. Made $25k-$37k during that time. Never owned a new car, always a cheap beater. Finally debt free in my 50s and saving for retirement 🙌

Asking older generations how much they paid for their first house. $15k-75k. Incredible.
