This is the harsh truth of our history while many of these foreigners love to pretend as if they gave us hospitality on a silver platter.

@KasiTrepreneur @zabediela @MbalulaFikile @MYANC @Lesufi @helenzille When South African youths flooded Botswana in 1976, the locals complained and the Botswana government rounded them up and took them to Dukwe refugee camp. The government was not being anti-refugee but was installing law and order and regulating relations. 1/2

Before European colonial conquest, Southern Africa was home to complex Bantu-speaking kingdoms and sophisticated trade networks that linked the interior to global markets. Long before the Dutch arrival at the Cape in 1652, regional economies were driven by the extraction and exchange of ivory, gold, and cattle. Precolonial Civilisations and Kingdoms Kingdom of Mapungubwe (c. 1000–1300 CE): Located at the confluence of the Shashe and Limpopo rivers, this was the first major state in Southern Africa. It prospered through ivory and gold trade with Swahili merchants from the East African coast. Kingdom of Great Zimbabwe (c. 1000–1450 CE): A successor to Mapungubwe's trade dominance, it featured the largest stone structures in precolonial Southern Africa and served as a massive commercial hub. Mutapa Empire (c. 1430–1760 CE): Encompassing parts of modern-day Zimbabwe and South Africa, it maintained extensive trade links to the Indian Ocean through ports like Sofala. Nguni and Sotho-Tswana Polities: Mpondo and Mpondomise: Established Nguni kingdoms in the eastern regions (modern Eastern Cape) that maintained high levels of autonomy and participated in regional exchange before the Mfecane. Zulu Kingdom: Rose to prominence in the early 19th century under Shaka, consolidating numerous smaller clans into a powerful military state. Pedi and Venda Kingdoms: Powerful interior states in the north (Mpumalanga and Limpopo) that controlled local resources and trade routes. Ivory Trade Routes: Cape to Delagoa Bay The trade route between the Eastern Cape and Delagoa Bay (modern-day Maputo, Mozambique) was a critical artery for the precolonial economy. Delagoa Bay as a Global Hub: This bay served as the primary outlet for ivory from the Southern African interior. It connected local Bantu kingdoms to Indian Ocean trade networks involving Arab, Swahili, and later Portuguese traders. The Mpondo and Mpondomise Role: These kingdoms acted as vital intermediaries and producers. Trade paths moved northward from the Cape's eastern frontier, through Mpondo territory, and toward the Thukela and Delagoa regions. Early Evidence of Processing: Archaeological sites like KwaGandaganda and Ndondondwane in KwaZulu-Natal show large-scale ivory processing as early as the 7th century, significantly predating European contact. Commodity Exchange: In exchange for ivory, Bantu kingdoms received luxury goods such as glass beads (from India and Venice), cloth, and copper. Landscape Partitioning: Evidence suggests ivory was sourced from both local river valley elephants and savannah herds further afield, indicating a well-organised procurement system that spanned hundreds of kilometres.

Bantu-speaking farmers, including the ancestors of the Nguni and abaMbo, brought the Iron Age to Southern Africa approximately 1,800 to 1,700 years ago (c. 200–300 AD). These groups migrated from the north, introducing iron smelting, pottery, and settled agriculture to regions that were previously inhabited by nomadic hunter-gatherers. Key details regarding their arrival and impact in the Cape: Initial Settlement: The earliest Iron Age settlements in South Africa were established in the northern and eastern regions (modern-day Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal) between 200 and 500 AD. Arrival in the Cape: Bantu-speaking communities reached the Eastern Cape by roughly 500 AD. Technological Shifts: They introduced metalworking for tools and weapons, as well as the cultivation of crops like millet and sorghum, which differed from the lifestyle of the Khoisan people who preceded them. Cultural Legacy: These early settlers are the direct ancestors of modern Nguni-speaking nations, including the Xhosa, Zulu, and Swazi.

Shonda Rhimes actually put her name on it, and made history while doing it. With a $15 million gift to Dartmouth College, Shonda Rhimes will have a new residence hall named in her honor, becoming the first Black person and the first woman to receive that recognition on campus. This is more than a building, it’s a statement about access, representation, and what it looks like to invest in the next generation.
