To many in football, Jose Mourinho looks like yesterday’s man. He has won one trophy in nine years, gone 11 years without even coming close to a domestic league title and 12 years without winning a Champions League knockout game. So does Real Madrid offer the chance for football’s favourite anti-hero to prove everyone wrong? Could he bring a seemingly out-of-control dressing room under his control? Or does this all end in predictable acrimony? 📝 @OliverKay 🔗 nytimes.com/athletic/72645…

Buying the best players in the world and putting them in one team will not make any team dominant anymore in football. Football is changing rapidly. Real Madrid can build another Galacticos and still won't be better than PSG and Bayern. Teams are building solid structures behind them to sustain performance and ease succession plan. It makes transition smoother. For Real Madrid, every change they make takes them back to square one. The only way they will bridge the gap is by giving a coach enough time. This is why Barcelona will win more La Liga titles than them. Real Madrid can win odd ones here and there, but won't sustain it, while Barcelona have more sustainable structure that makes them more consistent. For me, Real Madrid should've backed Alonso and gave him time.
