Simply gutted to see this news. I first learned of Dr. Shekinah Elmore from watching her incredible TED talk, and was lucky enough to meet her virtually for an utterly inspiring conversation. Such a deep loss for the cancer community. Fundraiser is below:

Words cannot describe how profoundly sad I am to share the news of Dr. Shekinah Elmore's death this week. Shekinah was a SPECTACULAR human with profound wisdom, an incredible generosity of spirit, & a heart of kindness that lifted us all up. gofundme.com/f/honoring-dr-…

As a cancer survivorship specialist AND the author of FRAGMENTED, I get it. In my book I show why when patients ask, "Isn't this all in my chart?" the answer is awfully convoluted for docs, too. Having patients fill out redundant papers of their medical traumas is not the answer.

"Our current status quo is not working. It leaves patients without the resources or the knowledge to be fully engaged in their survivorship care; it can exacerbate fears of recurrence with survivors facing the unknown w/o a guidebook."🙏Dr @lghazal #ayacsm cancerletter.com/trials-and-tri…

@chrissyfarr Such an interesting area & one I know folks in the community have lots of thoughts on, too. I defer to friends living w cancer here, but think one key q will be what it looks like to “live with” cancer & how we support folk’s mental & physical health more fully in that journey.

So fascinated by this question now of whether we will ever really “cure” cancer or if it’ll be caught earlier & earlier and become something that’s usually treatable. More of a chronic disease we live with and get tested for regularly. Thoughts?
