@himbaaaa @canalCCore2 It has been about 20 years since I heard the story, Space System Loral and Lockheed Martin Commercial Space were launching com sats with the 3B, the engineers told me they saw blocks of housing destroyed when driving past, I can’t remember if was immediately after or a year later

i've never even heard of a 1200 casualty estimate, the biggest i've heard was 500 and that was from the cox report. the actual reasons for the villager casualties were propellant poisoning, so, pretty close to what you said
