Good thing or bad thing? Irish people spend an average of 40 years in the workplace. That's the 5th longest in the EU. The Dutch work longest (44 years), then the Swedes (43). In contrast, the Italians work for just 33 years. 🧑💼🧑⚕️🧑🏭👷🇮🇪

It’s no exaggeration that Ukrainian public opinion is in an absolute firestorm after the parliament today approved a law essentially dismantling independent anti-corruption agencies, just days after SBU raided key investigators. The law isn’t enacted until Zelensky signs it — and there is huge pressure from within Ukraine and from the EU on him not to do so. Watch this space.

🇮🇱🇪🇺Group of 25–28 countries including the UK (with EU representation via commissioner), France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, and others issued joint briefs stating “the war in Gaza must end now.” They emphasized civilian protection and condemned Israel’s “drip feeding” of aid and the “inhumane killing” of civilians at aid sites.
EU Foreign Affairs Chief Kaja Kallas warned that “all options remain on the table” - including sanctions - if Israel fails to fulfill its promises on aid delivery and civilian protection.
Belgium, Spain, Ireland, Slovenia, Luxembourg, Denmark and others pushed harder - calling for the review and potential suspension of the EU‑Israel Association Agreement due to alleged human‑rights violations.
Despite a unified EU call for a Gaza ceasefire and humanitarian access, member states remain deeply divided on how to respond to Israel’s actions. While countries like Ireland, Spain, and Belgium advocate sanctions and a review of EU–Israel agreements, others - including Germany, Hungary, and the Czech Republic - continue to emphasize Israel’s right to self-defense. This divergence is limiting the bloc’s ability to take coordinated action.

Celebrating Five Years of Transatlantic Partnership with ICL 🎉
We were delighted to welcome our valued partners at Independent Container Line (ICL) to the Port of Cork on Friday, to mark five years of transatlantic success - offering the only direct shipping service between Cork and the USA.
During this time, 245 ICL vessels have travelled a total of 1.8 million nautical miles between Cork and the US East Coast - the equivalent of nearly 85 trips around the world.
This partnership highlights the continued strength of our trade links between Ireland and the USA.
A sincere thank you to our partners, customers, and supporters who joined us on the day, at the Clayton Hotel Cork City to celebrate this milestone and to all who continue to support this vital route.
Here’s to the next five years and beyond. 🚢

Perspective.
This is the map from the end of Ukraine's counteroffensive at the end of 2022, vs now in July 2025. The dark red line is now, the lighter one was then. Look at the macro picture.
We often have people in our replies going "You're reporting Ukraine losing village after village, surely they are losing" and we have to point out that they are far too zoomed in.
Russia has suffered hundreds of thousands of casualties since then, and thousands of tanks, over five thousand AFVs, Black Sea Fleet in shambles, and most recently Russian strategic aviation decimated. An embarrassment on the world stage, laughed at by all.
There are challenges of course, but well, many of those are up to Ukraine to solve rather than anyone else. The war isn't ending any time soon, Putin cannot afford to - his life is literally on the line.

@histforall Agree but the same could be said for Donegal. Both teams face a set of challenges.
